How long after surgery until your incisions "healed over"?

Recommended Posts

I know everyone heals differently and your doctor has the final say on things....but....

I AM The Pool Girl  and I'm wondering how soon after surgery I'll be able to get in the pool. Did any of your doctors restrict you from showering/bathing and you had to sponge? I have a heated pool and try to spend as much time there as possible. I want to change my life badly enough to give up some pool time though. I walk/run in there for an hour every day and don't want to give that up for too long. The treadmill just isn't as fun as time in the sun.

Again, I know the surgeon makes the decision about Water. But I would appreciate hearing about how quickly some of you healed or "healed over". Thanks!

It took two months for my incision to really heal well but I was only restricted from being immersed in Water for two weeks. My doctor said that once the steri-strips have fallen off on their own (removing them yourself does not count) then I could bathe and swim again.

I just returned from my 1 week post-op follow up visit (banded 7-6-09) and return August 25th for my next follow-up and 1st fill. My surgeon is making me wait until after the next visit before I can take a bath, hot tub or pool. I am so bummed out. I missed the entire season basically. BUT next year...watch out baby!!

I had surgery 3 weeks ago. My incisions are all healed over, with the exception of my port incision. The stitches came out a little too soon, and it is still "scabby". Anyway, I am a pool girl too. We have our own inground pool, and as I am a teacher and have the summer off, I virtually live in the pool. My doctor gave me the go ahed 10 days post-surgery. However, I guess it depends on the surgeon and the person (how well you heal).

Hope you get to make a splash!

My surgeon's instructions were to wait one week before baths or the pool. I probably would have waited at least another week before I took the chance, though.

I'm three and a half weeks out and my incisions are mostly okay. I have two with scabs still

Hmmm i was banded 7/7. I have no bandages or steri strips. They stitched and covered with super glue (or some type of glue adhesive! They told me i could shower the next day - tho i didnt ask about swimming since i had no pool.

I'm pretty healed, but not 100%. Although i will say i still feel swollen in that area---from the inside almost...i wonder how long until that swelling goes down!?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
