New to the site...Post Op

Recommended Posts

Hi, I am Stacey. I just wanted to introduce myself. I am 27 and 3 days post op. I am eager to start and continue life after the surgery. Just to give you a little background...I am a former athlete turned couch potato. I can't believe I let it happen either! Coming out of high school about 9 years ago, I weighed approximately 90lbs less than my pre-op weight. I was a year-round, non-stop athlete who was always a little big, but my height and muscle accounted for most of it. The last 9 years has been a whirlwind of failed diets and additional pounds. I can no longer enjoy the sports I use to, or even just keeping up with my friends. My journey at this point has been one of "pride". As in I was too proud to admit I needed help. It wasnt until about a year ago, when I was diagnosed with a fertility and hormonal disorder, that I realized this would be a good option. All of a sudden, getting the weight off was 10x's more difficult. I found the drive I needed and finally admitted I needed help. My wonderful husband has been such an amazing support system in regards to me getting healthy, so that has helped make this process a whole lot easier.

I look forward to hearing about your journeys just as much as I am eager to share mine!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
