Finally, a light a light at the of the tunnel.

Recommended Posts

Hey guys it's Alex,

So today I visited my surgeon Dr. Cohen for my consultation. It went extremely well. He was a pretty cool guy and I recommend him to anyone in Miami. He said that I will have amazing result with the surgery based on his experience, my relatively good health, age, and body type. Unfortunately it turns out that I have a lot of work to do before I can get my official date

-Physical Therapy Evaluation

-Psychological Evaluation

- Nutritionist Evaluation (3 appointments)

- two more visits with Dr. Cohen

- Mandatory Pre-op group sessions.

- Online videos and multiple choice test (about 40 pages of reading )

and a $300 program fee, my insurance is covering the rest

My unofficial surgery date is late September early October I'm so excited this is finally happening! Fortunately no diet, it's a good thing my insurance got the message that diets don't work.

That's awesome! Yeah, we all had a zillion hoops we had to jump through. Both your insurance company and your surgeon want to make certain you're absolutely committed before altering your body in such a dramatic way. Congratulations on being able to see that "light at the end of the tunnel". Good luck! Stay on top of your appointments and let us know if you have any questions or need advice along the way!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
