How long did you take of work?

Recommended Posts

My surgery was on a Friday, so I took that day off, of course. :lol

On Monday and Tuesday, I worked from home. I wanted to stay close in case I needed to lie down and rest or whatever. It was fine, though - in retrospect, I know I would have been fine going to the office. (My job is a desk one - very sedentary.)

I did go back to the office on Wednesday.

So in total, I missed one day of work, the day of surgery. But I worked remotely (and am very lucky to have the option of doing that with my job) for two additional days.

I am taking the entire 6 weeks. My job duties requires me of being able to lift 40 lbs, and pushing heavy carts, etc. Since I was using FMLA, my company requires a return to work note with no restrictions. Since my surgeon has a restriction of lifting no more than 10 lbs for 6 weeks... well here I am! We don't have light duty or anything unless you get hurt on the job, so I am taking my mini-vacation courtesy of Short Term Disability!

I was banded on Friday, May 1st and went back to work that following Monday. I have a desk job but I do a lot of walking. Truthfully I probably should have taken at least that Monday off too but I think it helped me with the gas problem that is fairly common.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
