cruise food suggestions

Recommended Posts

I was banded 6/29 and have not yet had a fill (so feel no restriction right now). I am going on a 4-day cruise Thursday and am worried about eating. As of now, I can eat just about anything (but don't since I want to heal well). I have been on many cruises and know what food is typically available, but as this is the first cruise of my new life, I'm anxious about making the right food choices. Suggestions?

Hello! Congratulations on getting banded :thumbdown:) -- I was banded 7/08.

As for the cruise, just like any restaurant you should be able to get them to make clear broth of some sort. At the very least they should have chicken broth .... Not sure if you are on solids yet (as every doctor is different), but if you are, just remember to stay far from the dessert tables and focus on Protein, protein, protein! Best of luck to you!

On my dr's schedule, you would be on mushies right now. Not sure what your Dr. has as your plan.

So, following my dr's plan, you could enjoy things like:

Yogurt;

Scrambled eggs;

guacamole (if you mush it up and take out any big chunks of onion, etc.)

mashed potatoes

salmon

Soups

cottage cheese

Jello

frozen yogurt

I hope that helps!

Catherine

If you're on mushies the one thing that got me through that was crab meat. Crab legs, crab imperial, chesapeake bay blue crabs, anything. If you're on solids I would go with shrimp every night if they had it. I'm a bit of a shellfish junkie.

Which cruise line? We are loyal to Royal Caribbean. We went on our first post surgery cruise in April and found lots of good choices and actually quite well. That included hitting the gym and running track.

I also ate a lot of crab and tuna and chicken salad (no chunks of course). It is soft and mushy and I would think a cruise line would have quite a bit of fish type choices. I just kept remembering what my surgeon said which is anything that dissovles easily and has a melt factor.

      Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
      What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

      I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
