I am 5 days post op and have had a headache for several days, been feeling extremely weak, dizzy and light headed. I'm a severe anemic as well. I called my doc who said I'm dehydrated and I need to up my fluids. I'm hoping that's what it is but of course I'm concerned. I was told to sit up and take a moment before I stand up....and move slowly. Take cool showers instead of warm. I'm hoping to feel better soon.

Sounds spot-on to me, Nellie. Dehydration can cause all those symptoms. Push water...aim for 64 oz. a day. Hopefully you'll see a difference in no time!

So much of the literature I read pre-op warned about dehydration, and since I am not a big Water drinker, I was concerned about this. I stocked up on Smart Water, which has electrolytes which help against dehydration. Trader Joe also makes an electrolyte water that is considerably cheaper and gatorade would do the trick too, but I don't like the taste. Emergen-C also makes an an Electro-Mix that you just add to one liter of water. It comes in a green packet and is only 39 cents. It has a lemon lime flavor.

Those symptoms can also be caused by a lack of Protein. There are different ways to drink them. I personally liked the New Whey protein bullets. The reason I said this could be protein related is because I went through the same thing and was drinking plenty.

omg I am haveing the very same issues right as we speak. I am afraid to even get up...got the gatorade in hand and have had one Protein Drink already today. This is a very weird feeling I am having like my body is moving slower than I am. I am thinking I am going to have to take something for the dizzyness talking to the doc now to see if i can crush up a pill and take it

I ran my son down to the store and bought gatorade. I drank half the bottle (it's a 64oz bottle) and am starting to feel a bit better.

Karibensea, you're right, it was as if my body was moving slower than I was...such a strange feeling.

WOW I was having I think some kind of out of body experience today with the dehydration. I mean really I know what I wanted to do and say but my body was just not in sync at all. I drank a 32 oz of the tasty stuff and I do feel so much better.

I tell you what that floaty, dizzy feeling is NOT a good one so every one please remember to stay hydrated.

I for one am glad that feeling has taken a hike!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
