Must haves for the post-op liquid diet

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I have my surgery on July 15th and I am a mixture of nerves and excitment (most of the time the excitment wins!) I know that my doctor will be able to answer some of this, but I am trying to plan ahead and have everything at my house. I am just wondering what people enjoyed most, what saved you during that liquid post-op time?!! Also, how soon do you start the Protein Drinks, immediately or a few days out?

I have a history of getting nausea from pain medication and am nervous that might happen after my surgery. Was that an issue for anyone else?

Any other tips regarding surgery recovery are much appreciated.

I am so excited to start my new life! :)

Thanks.

sugar free popsicles, broth and crystal light... Protein drinks were on my plan starting day 2 post op.

Good luck and remember to walk, walk, walk this will give you relief from any gas pressure.

Post-op, I was not hungry for a couple of weeks. I had difficult getting in the shakes (hated them so much), but tried to sip lots of Water every day to stay hydrated.

Most people are given anti-nausea meds at the time of surgery. I was also given a long-lasting dose before I left the hospital. Finally, I was given an Rx for suppositories just in case.

xoxo

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
