I have tricare prime. Do they pay for everything? Like the nutrition class and Psych evalve. I have a 45BMI so i am deffinitely qualified for the surgery. Also do they make you do the 6 month diet with physicians thing? I really think that would be pointless..I don't get why they make you do that when they know that YOU KNOW this is your last way of losing weight. It's frustrating because I'm going to college soon and i can only do it during summer, spring, or winter break.

I paid for my nutrionist eval, Tricare Prime paid for everything else as far as pre-op (cariologist/psych eval/surgeon consult) provided you get referrals from PCM for in-network specialists. Of course you pay your co-pay.

Did not require the 6 month diet just wanted to know that you have tried different ways to lose over the years. Just need to meet the weight requirement of 100 over ideal with one co-morbility or 200% over ideal.

I got my approval in less than 48 hours, I knew before the doctor did that I was approved... I didnt have classes to attend other than meeting with the dietician, so I guess that was paid as a bill didnt show up here, lol!

Tricare, in my opinion, when you are overweight and meet their quals, is a no brainer for approval. When I first started this process and told them I had Tricare, I was told approval was pretty much a guarentee..

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
