The first day I was out of it and the first night I had some shoulder/gas pain so I walked every time I woke up. It was not much around the house. The pain is nothing, your anxiety is more than the pain. I took the pain medicine the first day, then after that I did not need anything. You can read my whole story on my blog, just search for the user name. Trust me after the 3rd day you will be you again and now out almost 5 months and down 80+ pounds I feel 20 again, well almost. If your thinking about the band just do it, well worth it in every way.

Hey there! I was just banded on July 9, 2009. When I woke up in recovery the nurse asked if I was in pain and if so where? Surprisingly, the pain was in my back (due to the gas) and not so much in my abdomen area. I describe the abdomen pain as bein sore - similar to doing too many situps. I really struggled with the gas pain on Thursday and Friday, however, on Saturday morning I woke up and actually felt more like myself. Each time I walk and move more it gets better and better...I wish you the best!

I'd never had any kind of surgery before and had no idea what to expect. In the recovery room I could not have felt more normal! I was listening in on everyones conversations and just chilling. Thirsty but no pain. Plus I hate wearing my glasses, so that was uncomfortable:smile:

The insurance required me to stay the night but the next day, I also had the "too many sit up feeling" and held the seatbelt away from me for the drive home.

I walked around the house a few times an out into the backyard before taking a nap (no sleep in the hospital)

Walking around a few times an hour and very light housework (dishes, folding laundry) for the next two days made me feel quite normal. Third day was out to the mall.

I had Vicodin and took it before I felt any pain, ran out after three days and took Tylenol for the next week. I simply don't do well with pain.

Pain really wasn't an issue for me either. I even got by without any of the gas pains that people talk about in their back and shoulder. I agree with the 'too many situps' feeling. It's not really pain, just sore. I came home same day. Surgery was at 7:30 and I was home by noon. The liquid lortab made me dopey and tired, but I could still manage to get dinner for the family and do some light cleanup stuff. Slept most of the day and day after. Every day was better. After 5 nights I could sleep on my left side again which was great. I think it took about 5 weeks to get past the tugging sensations that I felt around the port if I stretched or turned a certain way. Now I don't feel anything. Just a little restriction if I eat certain things, but I've only had 1 fill. Very ready for the next fill to get some good restricition and start losing the rest. Good luck!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
