I'm 2 1/2 weeks post op. Friday I went to my PCP for a sinus infection and started on antibiotics. Since Friday I have had a Migraine. I'm still getting my Protein in but not my fluids. Today I had low grade fever 99.9 and am just feeling really run down. I'm trying to force fluids but because of migraine I have no appetite. I don't know if this is from the sinus infection or if I'm getting dehydrated. I hate to bother my surgeon's office for something non band related but I don't know what to do.

Well, I think you should call them anyway just to be safe or get into to see your regular doctor but I would call the surgeon first. Right after I was banded, I got home and immediately started getting the chills, sweats, diarrhea, migranes, I was so scared. I waited a couple of days to see if it would go away. When it didn't, I called the surgeon and after a long conversation with them, we realized it was stomach flu. I was relieved but not out of the woods. This was on a Friday and we decided to give it the weekend to see if I got to feeling better and of course go to the ER if it got a lot worse. By Monday, I was good as new and concluded that it was in fact stomach flu. I had not even considered that at first because my mind was so much on the surgery itself that I figured it had to be about that. But call them, that's what they get paid to do.

Dehydration is a band concern. If you are still feeling this way on Monday, you should definitely call your surgeon's office. Depending on how bad you feel, you may want to call this weekend and let the surgeons answering service get in contact w/your doc.

Did you have the Migraine before or after starting the anti-biotics? Are you sure you're not having a reaction to the med? Have you taken this med before w/out any ill-reaction? I'm not asking you to answer me as I'm not a medical professional.

However, if you think you may be having a reaction, call you PCM ASAP! I'm prone to sinus infections. So, I know how miserable they an be. My doc gave me augmentin (sp) on a friday. W/in 36 hours, I had a migrane and a nasty rash. I called in PCP's ansering service. They called me back after speaking w/my PCP and told me to quit taking the augmentin ASAP (duh, that was a no-brainer) and informed that my doc had called in another anti-biotic to my pharmacy.

Dehydration can be dangerous, so don't hesitate to call your doc.

you need to get fluids. For one thing, you need the liquid to help keep your mucous thin. For another, your body needs the liquid to perform properly. If you will make yourself drink, you'll feel better.

In fact...going a few days without the Protein will NOT hurt you as much as going a few days without adequate hydration. Seriously...dehydration usually kills before starvation. Odd, isn't it? That liquid is very important. Hydrate yourself.

I called my surgeon. He was not as concerned about the low grade fever as he was about the dehydration and Migraine. Went to ER a bag of fluids later and a shot for the migraine and nausea I'm feeling much better. Stopped on way home so I could get some gatoraide. Thanks for the replies.

Good! glad you called, sorry you had to go to emergency. Dehydration happens FAST. It is REALLY important to get that 64 oz of Water in each day; and as we get dehydrated the band actually gets tighter, so it can become a vicious cycle.

Cheers, everyone ! :)

I am so glad you called! :)

Get some rest, your body needs it. And drink fluids and broth.

Tell who ever is taking care of you (don't know if you're married) that you deserve a foot rub and some serious pampering!

 hugs and get some rest

Thanks. Yeah, I'm not married. My roommate has babied me beyond belief. He's my best friend and has taken such good care of me, from going to all my pre op appts and all my post op appts thus far. Not to mention taking care of me the last 2 1/2 weeks since surgery.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
