Which band = pounds lost

Recommended Posts

I'm trying to figure out which band to have placed. My doctor told me either is good. Not a lot of help there Doc! I thought I would start this thread and see if based on your answers I could get a more accurate decision.

What I would like to know is Which band you had placed and how much weight have you lost in what amount of time. I have until Wednesday to figure this out, everyone's help is GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks,

Stacy

Hey there Stacy,

I have the realize band 10cc band. I was banded 11-19-08 and have lost 91 lbs. so far with about that much still to lose. I am very happy with my band. I have 7.8cc in my band right now and the weight is just falling off. Gotta Love It. Good luck with your journey, you will make the best decision for you!!:frown:

I have been on this board for a few months now. Personally from what I have read, people have had success with both bands. So in a way, your doctor is right, they are both good. I choose the lap band because I could have a small amount of fill in it immediately, so going through the full liquid stage would not be so difficult. But really, I'm glad I choose it anyway. It has worked great for me.

I have a 10 cc Lap Band AP. I was banded on 04/14/09 and have lost 30 lbs. My doctor said the same thing about the different bands. He said it was like choosing between Tide or Cheer. I didn't specifically choose this band it's just what he decided to use at the time of surgery. I decided to let him choose since he should know more than me. I'm glad he used the AP band because I think the AP band has been around a little longer than the Realize band and it seem slightly smaller physically. If I have to have something foreign in my body, I want it as small as possible. I agree what's most important and crucial to your success is YOU. We still have to make the right choices and work with the band, whichever is used.

I also have the Realize band I got my band 12-22-08 and I have lost 68 pounds. I have 5.5 in my band I had some taken out because I kept throwing up but I'm doing much better now. I love my band too.

When you look at the stats, Compare Adjustable Gastric Bands - LAP-BAND vs. REALIZE Band, they're so similiar. Either one is going to give you the same results based on how well you work with it. I chose Realize and am down 36.5. But my DR was comfortable using either band. He still offers both to his patients because he sees the same results with both. Good luck.

I just had to have my original band replaced after 3 years. I wanted the new Realize band but my doc discouraged me due to the possibility of the band "kinking" thus making it difficult to fill. I do like the idea of online support though :)

Good Luck!

Hi Stacey,

I was banded with the realize band April 22, 2009 and I have lost 38 pounds so far. Started out at 240, now at 202. I have had 2 fills. First one was 3ml and 2nd one was 2ml. I get my third fill in a couple weeks. Dr. said after a couple more ml's I should be at my sweet spot and losing 2-3 pounds a week. I am very happy with my weightloss so far. good luck to you, you will do great!

Jackie

I was banded on 6/2/09 with the Lap Band and have lost 33 pounds. The nurse told me the construction of the Lap Band was superior to that of the Realize Band. I haven't done enough research on my own to say for sure. GOOD LUCK!

My Dr. told me they are both good and I was ok with either band. I told my Dr. to use the one he was most comfortable with and the one that he has seen the least problems with. He used the Lap Band. I am 3 weeks post-op and I am not scheduled for a fill for a few more weeks. Doing well, hunger under control

I have the realize band also. I'm down from 318lbs to 266lbs (including preop diet). My surgeon thinks both bands are about equal. The way she chose for me was asked me if I was on the internet a lot. I said yes, she gave me the realize band.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
