Michele123 0 Posted July 12, 2009 Need some suggestions, please... My nails are peeling like onion skin. My guru at the health food store has me on liquid Calcium 2 times a day but it's not helping. I've upped my protien but I can't seem to stop this. Had my surgery in March and am down 35 lbs. Anyone else have this problem and what are you doing for it.... I'll try anything. Thanks, Michele
Padanelle 2 Posted July 12, 2009 Wow, I have just the oposite. I'm 5 weeks post-op & i recently noticed how long and strong my nails have gotten. I used to have ridges and they are disappering. I just assumed it was due to the increased Protein intake - I'm averaging 70+ g p/day. It would be interesting to hear from others if they have noticed any changes in their nails. Enchanted 2 Posted July 12, 2009 I had hair loss and weakened fingernails about four months after surgery. It lasted about four months and has been fine since. Some people say this is due to a decrease in the consumption of Protein. However, I have also heard that this happens as a result of the anesthesia and that we get it more than others because we are not usually able to hydrate ourselves as well as others immediately after surgery (which helps remove the anesthesia from the body). In either case...the very good news is that this reverses itself. Talk with your doc about it, see what they have to say, though. xoxo
