What's wrong???

Recommended Posts

I had the lapband surgery January 08. For the first 6-8 months I actually felt restriction...but only the first 2 or 3 weeks after each fill. I lost restriction after those 2 or 3 weeks. Anyway I've only lost 60lbs and while I realize that everyone loses at a different rate, I don't feel any different now than I did before surgery. I went to my dr and he said that most patients can not tolerate anymore saline in their band for the size that I have. But I feel no restriction whatsoever. I eat as much as I want pretty much all the time! My dr says that I am as tight as he's comfortable making me so he did an upper gi b/c he said that I should have plenty of restriction but the gi came back everything ok. Any ideas what's wrong with me? I am so frustrated!!!!!!

I would have to ask what are you eating? Try to stick to the Protein it will keep you full longer. Control your portions, the band helps but can't do it all. Sometimes it can really be an up hill battle. And 60lbs since Jan. How great. I'll be a year out on the 22nd and have lost a little over 70lbs (very little over) But am so so happy about that. People with less to lose most of the time lose a little slower. Celebrate the victories and don't compare yourself to others, it will just drive you mad. good luck on your journey. wish I could have been of more help.

I had that problem and it turned out my esophagus was very dilated. It turned out that I was using my esophagus for a stomach. I had my band removed and had a revision surgery to a sleeve and I am so much happier. I can only eat small portions of any food I want and I am FULL.

If you're really and truly hungry all of the time and able to eat whatever you like without restriction, I would keep going back to the doctor until you have some answers.

Take documentation of what you're eating. How much food (weigh everything), Water, Snacks, everything. Give them as much information as you can so they can help you out.

I have to wonder if maybe you are restricted, but perhaps just not remembering what it was like to be 100% unrestricted. I'm also more than a year post-op and I have a hard time visualizing exactly how much I was eating before the band.

Hang in there. Keep in touch with your doc.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
