idababy 0 Posted July 11, 2009 Hi, I was banded yesterday, and yesterday was great. However today is a different day. I have had trouble drinking fluids all day, so I thought I would try some Jello. Boy, was that a mistake. I could feel it get stuck. I have noticed that warm fluids do better than room temp. fluids. Is this normal and does it get better? Padanelle 2 Posted July 11, 2009 Hi Michelle, I find a warm cup of tea or chicken broth is very soothing. I understand that warm liquids help open the stoma, and the nutritionist recommended having a warm liquid in the morning before anything else, as that's when the opening is tightest. Don't forget, you just had surgery, so you need to heal. It gets better every day.
RestlessMonkey 7 Posted July 11, 2009 It wasn't normal for me but apparently is normal for you! If warm fluids go down better, then drink them! It should loosen up as your swelling goes down. If not, you can call your doc on monday; some put a fill in during surgery (thank god mine didn't! LOL) and you may need to have some Fluid removed.
UpperWestSide 3 Posted July 11, 2009 I had a similar experience. I just could not get those cold shakes down the first few days. The nurse suggested that I drink something hot like tea. I had the Unjury chicken Soup flavored Protein and this was very soothing.
