Medical ID Bracelet???

Recommended Posts

My surgeons office highly recommends that each patient get a medical id Bracelet so if there is ever a emergency, the dr's can know we have had the procedure and not to give us NSAIDS etc.

Did anyone else get one???

I ordered one for the band, but also because I have other allergies that they should know about.

Thanks!

I think if it worries you, then sure, get one. However since my doc has told me I can take NSAIDS since I'm careful with them,(and frankly a dose or two in an emergent situation won't hurt ANYONE unless you're allergic) I personally don't think I need one.

Restless Monkey- I understand not wanting to wear one for the NSAID issue, but it makes sense to get one for the band itself.

If I was in a accident and they took me by ambulance to the hospital and didn't know I had the band, there could be injuries they aren't aware of or if there had to be surgery they could cut into the port or something.

Note-I am not a hypocondriac, I'm just over cautious I guess.

As I said, if you want one, get it! I don't. If there's time and I'm unconscious, they'll do x-rays, MRI, something before just cutting into me

and if they need to "cut into the port" to save my life (ie no time for x-rays) then I do NOT want them fretting about the band. Save me first; I can always get another band. Personally I don't think it's worth the bother, but as I said, if you want one, buy it!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
