1st fill - reflux, and headache

Recommended Posts

I finally had my first fill today (4ml) Had it at about 11am Have had sips of Water and a tried a bit of milky tea but am finding it hard to keep anything down. Have reflux and bubbly burps as well as a headache. Tried to take some antacid and baby paracetemol but that came up too. Will things have calmed down by tomorrow - any tips/advice?

Shasha, it is not terribly unusual to be a bit swollen after a fill, which is why most doctors require you do liquids only for a bit following one. However, if you are unable to even keep sips of fluids down, then it sounds to me like you are probably overfilled. Have you contacted your doctor and told him/her what you are experiencing?

I had my first fill on 7/8/09, and the first few days I felt no restriction. But, yesterday was an awakening, to say the least. I swallowed some chicken, and I immediately got an excrutiating headache and of course esophagus pain. No real advice, sorry, as it seems you can't even take down solids...but when you can, for Pete's sake, CHEW!!! I learned my lesson

Of course, Susan is correct. If you can't keep fluids down, you're probably too tight, and you can become dehydrated pretty easily. And some do swell after a fill but 4ccs is a pretty aggressive fill and you may need a little removed. If you still can't keep liquids down, call your doctor. :frown:

Thank you for your replies. I was reluctant to call the Dr as being the weekend it was an emergency call...BUT have had no sleep and no Fluid, so called her todfay and had 3 1/2 cc removed and am going to take the next few fills slowly. Feel SO much better now. That was a horrible experience.

Thanks again for the good advice. :frown:

I'm glad you called her! You probably saved yourself a trip to the ER tonight! :frown: Good for you! Glad you're feeling better now.

100% better today. OMG that was awful! I was able to keep a tiny bit of Water down during the earlier part of the day so thought things were getting better. Then at night for some reason I couldn't even keep my saliva down. I would dose off and wake up choking - so very little sleep. I don't know why it took me so long to address this!

Thanks again for the support and great advice. :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
