So I know that I am not supposed to drink any fluids when eating my meals. I dont know why (can anyone shed any light on why). I have been away on vacation and when you are away you tend to snack. Can you drink fluids when snacking? I know its not healthy to snack, but I am going to live my life on vacation and back to dieting when I get home. I also got my first fill before going away and I feel no restriction. When can you can the next fill?

My doctor explained, to me, that drinking during and right after your meals will help the digested food in your new stoma to become liquid like and will pass through the band, therefore not feeling full any longer.

Drinking while eating allows you to eat to much and not get full. Then your stomach pouch expands and your band could possibly slip. Not a good scenario. No snacking. Your defeating the purpose. Only my opinion. LOL

I say ask your doc.

They say not to eat or drink 30 minutes before or after a meal or Snacks. Its to keep you feeling full longer and not to push your food thru faster if you drink fluids and yes it can also stretch out that small stomach.

Actually the length of time to go without liquid post meal varies widely...I've seen it anywhere from 15 (what my doc recommends) to 2 hours, and not all have that ban PRE-meal.

You'll learn that each lap band doc has his/her own spin on things; so it's usually safest just to ask them what they want.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
