I got my band in 9/07. I stopped losing weight about 9 months ago. I did manage to lose 90 pounds. I have not had an adjustment in 6 months because I am afraid to go in as last time I had gained weight and the Nurse Practitioner for my surgeon said if I kept gaining they wouldn't adjust the band anymore. They finally talked me into coming in but now I have to have the adjust vs nonadjustment with an upper GI since it has been so long since I had an adjusment. I am excercising my butt off and just can't seem to lose anymore. I am stuck. Then to boot I have to have an EGD (scope) on monday because I have such awful reflux which I have had for years but has been getting worse despite the meds they have me on for it. I am so scared the pouch has stretched, because I have been eating bigger meals the last few months at times. I am scared they won't adjust it and I can tell it needs it. I talked to the Nurse Practitioner and told her I had to have the EGD on monday so now I have to go in tomorrow to get all of the Fluid out so they can scope me. So much fear of the unknown and nothing I can do about it but be patient and wade my way through it all. Anyhow thanks for listening.

Jackie

I have heard of people having too much Fluid in their bands, and so they eat slider foods (foods that go down easily) and gain. In that case, for people who are too tight, a slight unfill is the correct treatment. BUT I have never heard of a medical facility withholding treatment (an adjustment) because you haven't lost. 1. I'd ask what their rationale is 2. I'd take in a sample diet 3. If they were still pizzy and I didn't agree with their reasoning I'd find another doc.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
