There are two things I just don't understand about banding (probably more things, but 2 things today lol):

1. If I have a 10 cc band (which I do) and another person has a 10 cc band and we both get a 2 cc fill for our first fill, why would such a fill be a restriction for one person but no restriction for the other. I have heard time and time again that it depends on the individual whether a fill restricts. I don't understand how the same cc's would not produce the same result.

2. Why would a fill take a couple of weeks for one person to feel a restriction and for another person it might take a couple of weeks?

Please enlighten me. Okay, maybe I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer, but at least I seek to understand. lol

Thanks.

F

It would depend on where the doctor placed the band, the size of your stomach, any swelling after the fill as well as just individual variations.

Anatomy plays a major role in that. Last night, if you watched "Big Medicine", Veronica got a gastric sleeve. Dr. Garth commented that she had an unusually large stomach. So if she'd had a band, that would mean more tissue inside the band, and that would feel tighter than for someone with a smaller stomach.

I can get a fill and feel absolutely no difference the day of the fill or even the next day .... and then bam!, yeah, I'm tighter. Have no idea why

Let's not dismiss the pyschosymatic (sp) effect either . I had an appointment for my 6 month follow up, my weight loss had slowed and I wasn't feeling any restriction, so I decided I would ask for a fill. 2 days before my visit I suddenly felt some restriction and dropped a couple of pounds.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
