What Now? Banded Yesterday - July 7th

Recommended Posts

I was banded yesterday. Felt terrible yesterday and today is worse. It's not the pain, but ache that is bad. I cant lay down flat or else it hurts. I have to sleep in a recliner just to take the pressure off. I have tried walking, gasx and all, but no go. My stomach is rumbling and I feel hungry but the worst part is that I feel nauseated when I do consume liquids.

When I stand, my lower gut hurts - what is next?

Well it slowly gets better. Walk as much as you can that helps to move the gas they used to move out of your system. Depending on your doctor and the diet they have you on you should be able to start other liquids in a day or two and that helps with hunger. Hang in there. I am 6 weeks out and feel terrific.

I'm sorry you are having such a tough time. I was banded on July 1st and thankfully, I've had no real pain but, when I do get that horrible gas pain after drinking...I use a gas x strip and use my heating pad and the combination somehow makes me feel better in a matters of mins, I'm belching and feel relief. And, please take something for the pain...don't suffer and if need be call your surgeon.

Thinking of you,

Regina

I felt like David Carradine kicked my a## after surgery! i couldn't get comfortable and the gas part was no fun either! I felt better by 3rd day. As far as food, the broths and Jello and popsickles are my new bff's.

I didn't try to be a "hero" so I stayed up on my pain and nausea meds and put a bunch of pillows around me to sleep. You will get better.

I am just over a week out of surgery. I was feeling the same way and spoke with the Dr's office. They said to more slowly introduce the shakes again and try to sip some hot liquids. That would make me feel better. I had the Unjury chicken Soup Protein mix and I switched to that for a day r so. It went down much better than the shakes and I feel better each day.

Doc,

I was banded on July 1st, and I'm still sleeping in a recliner. I just can't get into as comfortable a position in my bed as I can in the recliner, so I've just accepted it for now. I feel tenderness still in my entire abdomen, also. I also had nausea the first few days, but my doc sent me home with some good medicine for that.

Talk to you doctor. I'm sure they can help you at least with the nausea. Also, are you tracking how much you're drinking and how often? Maybe you're drinking faster than you think, and it's causing discomfort.

I hope you start to feel better soon!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
