First time flying with band...questions...

Recommended Posts

Well the only thing I'm worried about is a few people have mentioned their bands being a bit tighter for a day or two after the flight and/or during...well I'm at my sweet spot finally and can eat small amounts, I'm worried that if it gets any tighter I wouldn't be able to keep Water down, etc.

I flew several hours last month and am on my way on another LONG trip later this month.

I didn't have any trouble with my band after flying. I did think that I noticed some weird feeling during the flight, but later realized it was just that the jeans I was wearing were pushing on my port.

Have a good trip! Lucky you, at your sweet spot. Still looking for mine!

yeah I had flown about a month ago and I was nervous about the same things. I was fine. I do tend to stress out during flights, and sometimes stress causes my band to feel tighter but even with that I was okay.

One word of warning...take a bottle of Water on board with you. Stay hydrated. We just flew back from Mexico and our plane was diverted for bad weather. We spent an extra 2-1/2 hours on the plane and couldn't get off at the second terminal because it was an international flight. I was so dehydrated I was about sick when I finally hit the ground.

Other than that, flying didn't affect my band at all. And, I have good restriction, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. Like the others said, the port can be a problem if your clothes are too tight. Dress for comfort, not style! Have a good trip!

Hello Everyone:

I recently flew and I had no trouble with my band. The only thing that I was nervous about was me forgetting to chew something well enough or eating to quickly and then having the urge to PB on a flight full of people. Its bad enough waiting in line to pee, let alone when you are doing the anti-PB chant and trying to convince your food to stay down. Luckily that did not happen. I agree with everyone else though about dressing for comfort and not for style.

PS. I love my band. It has allowed me to avoid having to use the dreaded seatbelt extender.

Happy Flying everyone.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
