hi all! Just wanted to start a thread and let all of you know what surgery yesterday went well and I just got home from the hospital. Doing well, just sore and a little uncomfortable. I'll be back online in a few days to share my story with you! Thanks for the well wishes!

Hi all,

I got home today. I arrived at the hospital at around 6:10 and waited for them to call me back. At 6:45, they called me back into the preparation area. I was weighed, asked a few questions, had the IV started and the anesthesiologist came in around 7 to talk to me. He was a really nice guy. Around 7:15 my surgeon came in to talk to me a little and told me he would send for me in about an hour. It was a little less than an hour and I was on my way. Oddly, through the whole process, I wasn't really nervous...until.....I got into the OR. I was wide awake. They inflated my air mattress to transfer me to the operating table. They were all bustling about here and there getting things ready. Putting on monitors, etc. Then my anesthesiologist said he was putting something in my IV, which I never felt take effect. Then he put a mask on my face and said to breath normally and I would be going into dreamland.

I remember waking up being asked if I was in pain and to rate it. I think I said an 8 and my left collar bone was hurting soooooo bad. I could feel the incisions on my abdomen being a little painful. No nausea though. Thankfully!! I was in recovery about 45 minutes and then taken back to my room. All in all it wasn't a bad experience. I am having feelings of needing to burp and feeling a bit of pressure around my diaphragm, but have not needed any pain meds. I did use some of the morphine that was hooked up for a while. So far, though, my tummy is sore, but not real pain. It has never felt so good to pass gas though. Sorry (TMI) lol. Just wish I could burp!!

I am just so excited to get all of this going and get healed. :smile2:)

I hope the rest of my fellows 7-7 bandsters had and will continue to have a wonderful experience!!

It is going to be a challenge though getting in 64 ounces of Water in a day. But trying hard to work on it.

Hugs and can't wait to hear the rest of your stories!!

Congrats Paulette! Your surgery experience sounds very similar to mine, and I've been amazed at how well I've recovered in a week. I'm wishing you the best!!

ok i couldn't sit it my chair anymore so i'm on here very quickly just to add my story...

Arrived at the hospital tuesday at 7:45am...my check in time. About 5 minutes after I checked in, they called me back to get everything started. IV...questions...blood drawn and heparin shot. All was painless and quick.

He had an emergency surgery early that AM so he was running about an hour behind. So around 9:45 they came and were ready to take me to holding...waited about 45 minutes, went to the bathroom, and maybe a few minutes after that the anesthesiologist came to chat with me. We talked about not having any hydrocodone or anything like it (i get really sick from it). A few minutes later my surgeon came in to talk about the procedure quickly and took me in. I scooted over to the operating table, remember everyone introducing themselves to me, strapping my left arm down and them telling me that they gave me something in my IV...i just stared up at the lights and I vaughly remember them telling me that they were going to put a mask over my face and that was it..nighty night for me.

I woke up in recovery, but apparently I was having a hard time staying awake...and when I would fall asleep my O2 levels dropped a lot so I was in recovery for a little over 3 hours. I just remember waking up/falling asleep on and off and being VERY VERY nauseas...once I got up to my room around 4ish, i was nauseas on and off until about 9:30pm when I finally started to feel better. I didnt' take any pain meds the entire time I was in the hospital (didn't need it and didn't want to take the chance of getting sick)...so now i'm home, taking liquid tylenol, an occasional (2) gas-x strip, and just waiting for myself to feel better. I'm sore and have gas pain on and off in my shoulder...not bad tho! Really, the worst part of this whole thing was coming out of anesthesia for me. What everyone says on here was SO helpful in knowing what to expect! The only incision that is sore is the port...the other ones are just like little marks..don't hurt at all. And tightness in my actual stomach where the band is.

I'm still a little sore and tired so if some of this doesn't make sense...well i'll fix it when I get back in a few days...right now it's time to sleep...again.

GOODLUCK to everyone who's getting ready! And fast healing to those who have just gone...

oh! And for pre-op diet, I had to do all liquids for 5 days...Carnation Instant Breakfast was b/l/d and just broth, SF popsicles, and Jello inbetween...and the weight FLEW off!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
