Post Surgery Gear??!!

Recommended Posts

Hi all and thanks so much to all who responded to my previous post and to those who have shared their experiences so honestly on this site. What a great group of people!

As I stated before, I found out yesterday that I am getting my band on Monday, 9/26. What should I stock up on at home? Protein Shakes, loose clothing, pain meds, anything else?

Good movies maybe. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.

Thanks so much!

Darla

I couldn't have lived with out my Soups (to puree) and strappy tops with shelf bra (as a real bra just wasn't cutting it). Good movies and good books are also a good idea.

I also cooked a couple of dinners the week before and froze them, so my husband didn't have to worry about cooking while I was recovering.

Good luck on Monday :)

I "super-stocked up" on broth, juice, sugar-free freeze pops, sf Jello, sf pudding, but don't make the same mistake I did. After two or three days of eating/drinking these things I had ODed on them. I also rented a ton of movies and bought many magazines, but I should have saved my money, all I wanted to do is sleep (especially the first week after surgery). Hope this helps!

I stocked up on (enough for 2 weeks) Cream Soups, broth, SF Popsicles, 0 cal flavored water (this has been a life saver), yogurt, protien powder, carb countdown milk, SF Jello. Make sure you have liquid tylenol (I got adult strength at WalMart), a heating pad can also help with gas, Gas-x chewables. Set up a comfy place to sleep if you have a recliner bring your pillows and blankets down to it because it was really more comfortable during the first few days - especially if you wont have anyone home to help you out of bed when you finally wake up.

I brought a book and magazine to the hospital but was to spacy to concentrate on it for long. When you get in your room if they don't provide you with mouth swabs ask for them - they were great to get rid of the dry mouth, lips and throat from the breathing tube. You might not be allowed to drink anything until day 2 (I wasn't).

Good luck,

A heating pad can be wonderfully soothing -- I got one that auto-shuts off after an hour and keep it on low. For some reason I get really cold at night if I don't eat much during the day. The heating pad really helps with being able to sleep.< /p>

Hello, where are you having it done? The 26th is my b-day and in a way it will be yours too, Your Happy b-day to the Bandsters world. Everyone has beat me to the punch on all the medical stuff to take. I took my portable cd/dvd player because I was to nervous to read and the TV station were all in spanish (even though I understand spanish perfectly) I listened to my music and watched a few movies. Oh and slip on and off shoe like some sippers or sandles, Dummy me took tennis shoes and had to tie them ouch! Good luck. Keep us posted.

This is what you need to take with you to the hospital just in case. I took hard candy to suck on afterwards - I took sugar-free jolly ranchers and boyyyy was that ever a lifesaver. 3 other ladies being banded with me kept coming into my hospital room wanting some - it got us through the tough times. Also I took Gas-X chewable tablets even though they say the pain afterwards is not in regards to this - we felt it helped get some things moving. Also the heat pads you wear and throw away. I also took Tylenol gel tabs with me just in case I needed it. I think that's all I can think of but it all helped at least to keep me comfortable.

A HUSBAND .....I mean that pillow with the arms they call a husband. If you don't have a recliner that Lynn suggested. Lynn and La Madam is right on point, I think I learned from them. Liquid Tylenol and gas x were my friends. Water, popsicles, sugar free pudding is what I used to put my crushed pills in. These guys on LBT are great. Ask them anything and they have the answer for you. "God" Luck

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
