Recommended Posts

So I just started my liquid diet today and I have a few questions. Ive read alot but IM still not 100% sure.

Am i ONLY allowed to drink these shakes and nothing else?

Is having a small piece of chicken possible? A fat free yougart?

It depends on your surgeons' instructions and they vary wildly. I was 14 days all liquids (broth, protien shakes, sugar free popcicles, Water, Diet Snapple, etc.) and no "real food". Others have shakes and one meal a day or no pre op diet at all. Check with your surgeon to see what they would prefer you do.

I'm starting that this coming Wed! I'm so freaked out about it.

How is it? Are you starving??? When is your surgery date? Where are you going? Who is your doctor?

For me, I'm only allowed the shake, Water, crystal light and a few veggies... but not a lot. And I've got 2 weeks of it... I'm really nervous!

But don't worry! Your going to do great! Good luck!!!! You can do it!!!! Just think it hard now but it will be a lot easier later! :smile2:

Lots of luck! Your pal!

I started mine today too and my surgery is the 22nd! It wasnt so bad. I am allowed 5 Optifast shakes and 2 Protein Shakes from other Protein Powder. I did them every 2 hours. and drank a TON of Water. Today was not so bad. I am curious to see how tmw goes. I am okay with just doing the shakes b/c i had "last supper" syndrome the last 3 weeks and gained 4 lbs. I think i ate everything i wanted so i feel like this is pay back for eating all of that!

I start my preop diet tomorrow...surgery the 15th..so just barely under one week on preop diet. Had all my preop done today including EGD...so all that's outta the way. My doctor said for the pre-op diet pretty much no food...just carnation instant Breakfast and/or slim fast. Dont think this is going to be real easy..especially when the rest of my family will be eatin regular foods right in front of me! Lol

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
