Lets talk about birth control....

So, I'm starting on birth control pills in a couple days....and I was wondering how things are going for those on bc pills and the band? Has it affected your weight loss at all? Side effects since getting banded, etc? Thanks!

I have been on birth control for years. I have a love hate relationship with them. The plus side is that i have never had an unplaned pregancy and have very light periods. The down side is that they make me moody, gain weight, and not want to have sex at all. I have been on them for over 10 years. They are not effecting my weight loss so far. I feel better since i have been loosing weight i am not as moody

I don't take the pill because I can NEVER Consistantly remember to take them, so my doctor put me on the Nuva Ring and I have LOVED IT!!! It has 35 days of medicine in it and it's no worries! It doesn't hinder my weight loss.

Hope this helps!

I am on the patch and have been for 9 months. I've never been on birth control prior to this. I opted for the patch because I wouldn't remember to take the pill everyday. I haven't noticed any side effects and it has not hindered my weight loss.

Interesting birth control pill. Rather than changing the ovulation process, it just plain makes you not want sex. :crying:

i was thinking about going off of deprovera after the surgery and switching to an iud. the hormones on this have been rough and it has totally killed my sex drive after 5 years of use...

I havent had my banding done but I recently started BC for the first time ever. I was so worried about all the side effects. I am using the Nuvaring and it is great. Alittle difficult to get in (hope that goes away with the smaller me to come) but otherwise no weight gain, no sex drive loss (actually its more!) and the only thing I have noticed has been some mood swings.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
