Im so bummed out, my band has slipped!

Recommended Posts

I just found out yesterday that my band has slipped. I am waiting for a call from my surgeon today to let me know what we need to do from here. I am so bummed out about this. I have lost 52 pounds so far since Nov 24 (band date). Anyways I was having some heartburn/reflux issues. Than I ate a piece of cheese and I PBd. Then I threw up very bad. The next day I could tell something was wrong. And so that is when it all started. I am a little worried because I have read that once you have a slip, you are prone to slips.

Just needed to vent a little. I am feeling very down today.

Hi:

I just wanted to say that I'm sorry you've slipped. Thanks for sharing your experience because it may prevent others from having the same problem by hearing how you think your slip happened. I hope that your doctor works out a good solution for your problem.

I love my band and my new flat tummy!

Sue

Sorry about your slip. I have heard that some people with a slip can leave it go for awhile and see if things get better on their own. I'm sure it depends on how bad it is.

Let us know how you're doing?

I'm curious as to what your doctor decided on you to do for the slip. I just found out yesterday that my band has slipped. Very discouraging cause I felt finally like I was getting somewhere. My doctor immediately advised another surgery to repair the slip. I don't want to have to take more time off work & go through another surgery but I will if that's what I have to do. I asked him couldn't we just see if it goes back in place on its on. He said we could try it but it probably won't be completely right until they stitch it back in place.

Yes the Doctor said I would need surgery again. He did however let all the Fluid out of my band and it was some major relief. But in the mean time I can eat whatever I want, I don't but I surely can. However I am now considering the Gastric Bypass. I have read alot about slips, and it seems like it will likely slip again. So I don't want to go through that again. And not to mention that my insurance will be running out in about 8 months.

So Good luck to you and I hope it works out for you.

I had my band put in in Feb. I am going in on August 3rd for a revision of some kind. I don't even think the Dr. knows what he is going to find. I have no problems except that I have never had great restriction. He said that nothing has slipped because I had the upper GI. He filled the band to max and still no restriction. I was told something about a phantom band, whatever that is.

Has anyone ever heard of the band coming unclasped. I am hoping that is what they find. I am not looking forward to the surgery again. If my insurance covered it, I would get the sleeve.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
