Need some help and encouragement...

Recommended Posts

So... I had my surgery on December 15th and have lost 54 pounds so far which is great! However the past 3 months I have been gaining and losing the same 5 lbs and am becoming very frustrated with it. Also I have felt some restriction with my band but very little and I have 7cc's! I can still eat a 6inch subway sandwich and I don't think that's right?

I just wanted to see if someone could give me some menu and exercise ideas that I could try differently. Also I have never taken my Protein...do you think that might have something to do with it? Please no hate resoponses...were here to help each other...not beat them down even more!

I go for a fill next week and am going to discuss with my doctor whats going on. I also start a boot camp the following week which will help me with my weight loss im sure...I just needed some encouragement!

Thanks so much!

hi roxy,

first and foremost...you can do this! you already have taken a great first step by reaching out for help.

(i appreciate your comment about not getting beat up...i find some holier then thou' people on here and stay clear of them.)'

i did have "pitfalls" within my weightloss journey.

i will share some of my experience and maybe you can get some ideas for yourself

when i would fall off the wagon and wanted to get on track....the first thing i would do is to start journalling my food. i used sparkpeople. but there are many sites that calculate what you eat. i found i was fooling myself into thinking i wasnt eating alot. when in fact every little snack...added up.

the second thing i did was to start drinking Water again. it helped me to feel full plus it just made me feel like i was "working my program"

then i started moving. i would start slow like walking. then i got to the gym. that helped me to think twice before picking up junk after i just busted my butt working out.

i also made myself only focus on "one day at a time". in the past i would think of all i had to lose and it would frustrate me.

lastly and this seems to be hardest for alot of people but i think it helped me the most.

i got rid of all my scales and i only weighed 1 time a month. i also measured myself because i was losing inches faster then weight. eventually the weight followed. the scale was my "god" and whatever it said put me in a good or bad mood.

also i read post of people that had a positive lapband program. they gave me strength that it could be done.

i used Protein shakes and Protein bullets to insure i got enough in. otherwise i would start to lose hair.

anyway good luck and keep us posted.

josie

anyway you definitely can do this.

Hi Roxy,

Congratulations on losing 54 lbs! I was also banded on Dec 15 and also get frustrated when I would hit a plateau. My doctor recommended that I increase my Protein. Due the humidity here in Florida, a couple friends from work and I have started walking up & down the 4 flights of stairs in our building. We go up & down 4 times in the morning and then again in mid-afternoon. We started out with just one flight & have worked ourselves up to 4 after about 2 months. I won't say that I love doing it, but we can do it during our 15 minute breaks and I am proud of the results. People that teased us about doing it when we started are now saying they wished they'd joined us in the beginning.

Also don't be so hard on yourself about how long it's taking to lose the weight. Of course it was easier when we were younger, but that's OK. Obviously the quick diets didn't work for us long term regardless of our being younger then. Keep telling yourself that this time it's for keeps! Be patient and praise yourself for every pound you lose. You can do this.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
