Scheduled yesterday for Surgery on Monday!

Recommended Posts

Well I am off to get my band on Monday, 9/26!

I called yesterday to ask when I would get scheduled and they asked if I could come in Monday! Not only that, my Dr. told me I get free fills for the first year! Needless to say I am happy and nervous. My Dr. also said I could more than likely drive myself home the next day. Did anyone else drive themself home the next day? I am thinking I might take a friend and have her drive me home (2 hr drive) the same day. Any info is greatly appreciated.

Whoa... you doctor shouldn't have told you that IMO. I know that some people are bounding out of bed and off pain meds the next day but I don't think that is the majority. You will more often than not be on morphine after the surgery and then a liquid narcotic. Driving while on a narcotic is bad, bad, bad - especially with a 2 hour drive after major surgery. I live 40 min from the hospital and my DR tried to get me to stay an extra day just in case. For me personally, I was banded on 9/12 and did finally drive this weekend but the left hand turns were murder as everything is still a little sore (not painful but sore) on that side from the port. I would have someone pick you up for sure.

On the brighter side - Congrats on your surgery date - I am so excited for you!! See you on the losing side!

Lynn,

Thanks so much for the information! I think I will talk to the surgery coordinator. I am thinking that I should stay in a hotel a day or two before returning to San Diego. Thanks for the warm welcome! I can't wait to get started on this journey!

Definatly take someone with you. You need a driver! You will not feel like driving at all even the next day!! Congratulations on getting such a quick date for your surgery.... now run out and stock up on all your bandster gear and get ready for the start of the journey of a lifetime!!! Good luck and wishes for a speedy recovery!!

Congratulations on getting a surgery date :)

I wasn't allowed behind the wheel for 7 days. I could have done it after 4 or 5, but definitely no sooner. I guess everyone is different though.

Good luck with it all :)

Hey I'm the same day as you. Congrats! Do you have to do any preop stuff? I've been on a liquid diet since 9/12. I'm making it, and haven't killed anyone in my family yet, although if they keep leaving thier dishes in the sink I might have to!

I wonder if anyone else is having it on the 26th?

Hi Sunsett,

I am so glad to hear I have a pal who is also going in on Monday. Lets keep in touch with how we are doing, ok?

Are you just bursting with excitement? I am! I am sort of nervous too. Best of luck to you!

I freaked out this weekend! Was terrified! Not to the point of backing out but just the whole aftercare thing, plus I'm going on a cruise on 10/14. So will I be feeling ok able to eat and swim.

Then yesterday I went to my Dr, who I hope stayes in Charlotte for the rest of my life! He sad with me and my husband for over an hour answering all of my questions. I have such peace now! Moments of Anxiety, BIG MOMENTS, but I know in my heart this is the right thing for me to do, and I also know I have the right Dr doing it to me.

Yes lets stay in touch!

Hey Sunset,

This is really a coincidence...................I am going out of town Oct. 18 - 30! You are leaving on the 14th and me on the 18th. I am going to keep you in my thoughts and prayers so all goes well. I am not going on a cruise but I will be out in the boondocks (tiny, tiny, town) in Northern New Mexico. Everyone I ask says we should be fine by then. Let's think positive..............and really focus on our recovery, ok?

Coongratulations ladies on your surgery dates. DJ please don't drive, my ride home was the worst part of surgery. Riding through Wasington DC hitting on the bumps were horrible. A girlfriend of mine drove and I recently asked her was I freaking out on my way home after surgery. She told me no, I told her I was yelling and scream while hitting all the bumps all the way home. I told her I did not believe it but I was on morphine so it was all in my head. LOL

It would be best to have someone with you even if you stay at the hotel. I wish I could be there for you. I think I will volunteer to be a buddy on the a few weekends at the hospital for anyone who does not have somone to be there with them. Thanks DJ

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
