I can't get no...restriction!hey hey heyyyy (5.5/14cc?)

Recommended Posts

Just a bit of background: I was initially banded 12/07 and then needed a band adjustment surgery in 2/09. I am now 5 months out from that surgery, and I've been going every 4-5 weeks for adjustments. Obviously they are taking it slow because I had a slipped band and we do not want to see a repeat of that.

At this point, I believe I'm at 5.5 or 6 (somewhere around there) out of 14cc.

I don't think I should be able to eat the amount of food I am able to eat and in the time I'm able to eat it. i haven't had any issues at all with digestion, I mean not one PB or vomit episode (knock on wood, I'm trying to keep it this way!!!!) but I can eat an entire turkey burger, the whole bun, and some baked fries on the side. And i could eat all of that in under 10 minutes. I'm trying to stay healthy and I'm eating the right things (for the most part), but when I see how fast and how much I can eat, I start to worry if there's something wrong. and I know I am paranoid and I think that my band might have slipped again (because the last time I was able to eat a lot and then suddenly nothing at all).

I guess I am just wondering how others with the same amount of fill did at that stage. were you able to eat so much and so quickly?

I have the APL 14cc band...I recently got my 1st fill and now have 6.6cc's...I was expecting to have serious restriction but I do not...I can still eat more than the recommended 1/2 to 1 cup of food...the only way I know SOMETHING has changed is that I had my 1st "stuck" episode because I did not chew well enough. It lasts about a min or 2 and then passes..I expect the tighter I get ..if I don't chew enough it will have to come up but at this point it does pass. It does seem that I stay full longer but I would love to get to the point that less than a cup of food satisfies.

I have 6 ccs and can eat over a cup, and I plan on making an appointment for a fill sooner than my next scheduled appointment.

I would think that given your past history, you should call your doc asap just to be safe! Good luck! :tongue_smilie:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
