First 10 days on liquids?

Recommended Posts

I was Banded July 2nd

The post op for the first 10 days says Clear Liquids, broth and Jello only but how many times can you eat the jello and broth? as opposed to liquids like Water or apple juice. are u supposed to consume the broth and jello like the other liquids (4oz.) every hour to help keep you hydrated?

What exactly do your directions say? I could have clear liquids for week 1 (no Protein shakes) and I wasn't limited on any of them, but each doc seems to have his/her own post op guidelines.

they say clear liquids, jello(sug. free ) and broth

my question is can i have the broth every other hour and Jello and Water in between or do the broth and Jello represent a meal and should only be eaten 3 times aday

It says "clear liquids, Jello (sugar free) and broth"

where does it tell you amounts/times?

the instructions say to have 4oz. of clear liquids every hour. and they included the before mentioned so i was wondering if there was a limit to any of the liquid. Wx. can i have the broth all day long or the jello..

also how do you get one of those measuring meters on your profile

If it says 4oz an hour, then that would mean 4 oz of ANY clear liquid. And ask tomorrow if you can have more than 4 oz an hour.

And here's a link to a ticker tutor:

I was banded on July 2nd also. My instruction says clear liquids also, but it doesn't say when or how often. I've had broth 3 times a day and I drink other liquids all day long, sipping a little at a time. I can start with drinkable yogurt tomorrow and Protein at day six. So I just keep sipping all day long. I find it takes me all day to get enough Water, juice, liquid. I think it's important to stay hydrated and let the stomach heal.

I'm still not hungry and seem to be doing alright. I go to work tomorrow, so that will be the truth in how I'm doing.

Good luck

Yes...as long as you each follow your doc's orders you'll be fine. I didn't have to watch volume either and could get buckets down (that's not uncommon any more; old bands were smaller/tighter and caused some people early restriction but now more and more they are sized and once initial operative swelling goes down, one doesn't feel ANY restriction)

Now is the time for healing so you guys take it slow, follow doc's orders, and you are both doing great!

I'm supposed to be on a diet similar to my liquid pre op diet except there aren't any cal/carb restrictions. They want me to begin the shakes as soon as I feel able to tolerate them - for the nutrition and to get the 64oz Water in daily. This is for the first two weeks post op.

I was banded on the 2nd too. My instructions were clear Fluid 1st day then anything I could suck up a straw until week 3. I'm having V8 vege juice, clear chicken. tom yum, Tomato, potato, corn & bacon, pea&ham Soups, drinking yoghurt, home made egg custard, diet jelly, lo fat yoghurt, up&go Breakfast drinks as well as Optifast shakes. I stick to 3 'meals' /day plus 3 'snacks' so really 6 feeds a day plus 2lts Water, coffee, tea & diet cordial.

I asked my Dr if I should stick to 120mls at a time over 1/2hr but he said to drink until I felt satisfied which worries me a bit cos sometimes I feel like I could eat a horse. I do feel fuller if the liquid is a bit thicker tho. I dont want to stretch my pouch!!!!

I was gonna ask if anyone kinda tried something Mushy within the first 10 days and if so what was the reaction , if any...So you're saying you went on soft food 4 days after surgery..

Please follow YOUR surgeon's post op diet as given to you and do NOT do what people on here do. Different surgeons perform the same operation differently and their patient base HEALS differently. Having patients move to mushies "early" may work for some surgeons, because of how they install the band, or for whatever reason...but you need to do what YOUR DOC tells YOU to do. If you are hungry, call and ask if you can advance faster. Don't just do it. Please. Even if it doesn't "hurt" you right away it MAY hurt you on down the road. (a loosened stitch may mean the band doesn't heal in place properly and set you up for a slip or erosion down the road, for example)

You chose your doc, you trusted him/her to do your surgery, now trust him/her to guide you through the post op healing phase.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
