Has anyone had the surgery in Mexico???

Recommended Posts

Hello, I was wondering if anyone has had the surgery by Dr. Kuri & Associates in San Diego or Mexico. Or if anyone has actually went to Mexico for the surgery? I'm really considering having the surgery but having some insurance hold backs and was thinking about going to Mexico for it, of course to save some money, but am a little nervous about going there just in case something happens. I'm about 2 & 1/2 hrs. from Mexico. I am new to this website and any feed back or info on this would be appreciated.

I personally had my surgery here in the states, but did go to mexico with a friend, she had her surgery by dr Alcavaz? His clinic was super clean, she had a private room, they kept her over night, (I was only in the hospital for about 5 hours), then they put us up for the night in a very nice hotel to make sure everything was o.k. I would highly recommend them. also there is a nurse on another websit that I've been on that recommends dr curry highly!

A BIG drawback to having surgery done "away from home"....whether in another country or another county...is finding aftercare. Once you get the band you'll see that fills and follow up are as important, if not moreso, than the band, and MANY surgeons will not take on a patient who was operated on by someone else.

That is a big problem we read about on here quite frequently, so if you do decide to go to Mexico (and there is a forum on that...just click on Home and then scroll down) make sure you either plan to go back frequently for fills, etc, or find someone locally who will take you on as a patient.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
