Anyone else start dieting before the surgeon said to?

Recommended Posts

I had my consult on June 15th and my pre-op appointment is tomorrow. I got the last of my needed paperwork on the 2nd (Thursday), so I haven't been able to submit it to the insurance company. When I go in tomorrow, I'll give everything to them.

But I stopped eating junk food and stuff about a week ago. I'm eating chicken, fruits, veggies, etc... I don't even think I've had bread. Just oatmeal and bran Cereal. No soda, no sweets.

I wasn't told to do it, I'm just sick of all the junk I'm eating and all the money I spend on it. And I want to get a head start before I have my surgery.

Anyone else do this or did you wait until the last minute before you stopped eating all the "bad" foods?

I'm trying. It's hard to stay away from that "last meal" syndrome.

I have quit drinking coffee, caffeine of any kind, soda, and carbonation. I am taking the Vitamins everyday to get in the habit. I am successful about 75% of time in not drinking with meals. I am attempting to stay away from bad carbs and sugar. NOT EASY!

I believe I will be banded sometime in mid to late August so I'm just working on those habits, ya know?!

It does something to your head...Its like once you decided to get the band your ready to go...nothing wrong with that.

Just remember though that it might take you a few months after the surgery to get restriction after the initial swelling goes down. So don't let yourself get discouraged. Take advantage of being in the weight loosing zone as much as you can.

Good luck to all of you on this new journey.

Exactly what I've been saying! Once I really decided on the band and it got real, everything feels so much different. I've also been reading books on emotional eating and on the lap band, so maybe that's helping, as well.

I'm not craving foods right now like I used to. Maybe certain things about why I eat came into awareness. I guess I always KNEW, but really seeing it in words... it changed me. So that, "OMG I NEED _____ RIGHT NOW, GO GET IT, NOW" devil in my head is MIA. Don't come back, please. :(

I'm not completely ok, though. Two times I was headed to the 7-11 to get a Mocha Iced coffee (which is LOADED with sugar) and both times I turned around midway.

Once I get an actual surgery date, I'll practice the new things like chewing slowly, eating small bites, finding Protein Shakes I like, etc...

I should probably be doing it now, lmao, but it feels like I'm wasting time when I chew slowly when I don't have to. I know, I know...

And really, the last 10 years has been my "last meal". I've eaten more in that time than I ever need to again.

Doesn't look like it hindered you too much! You look great! What an amazing loss!

I completely agree about the chewing and smaller bites being the last pre-op "frontier" once I get a date. (hopefully this week I'll know) I am already having Protein Shakes for Breakfast everyday. I am a bit of a gagger so it's been tough! LOL

Hahaha, Protein Shakes (the ones I've tried in the past) were pretty gag-worthy.

I need to research and buy some healthy, good tasting ones that aren't too expensive.

This is what I keep trying to tell myself, but I still get this nagging feeling to have yet another last meal.

During this whole pre op liquids thing I have found myself salivating at the thought of food (even lettuce!) or while watching TV. It sucks! LOL

No lettauce for you?:) That is one harsh pre-op diet. I get to keep lettauce, chicken, fish and a few other veggies as long as I keep it under 450 calories a day. How I'm going to make anything worth eating out of lettauce, chicken, fish and a few other veggies is another question. I feel I will be exploring the subtleties of pepper...

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
