Hi Elizabeth. I felt pretty bad for the first week after my surgery. I had pain everywhere. I felt pretty good after those first 7 days and almost normal after about 10 days. I was good to go after 2 weeks. Everyone is different and I'm sure we all had different recovery experiences. It does get better - hang in there. Not sure how long ago your surgery was, but I hope this helps. Good luck. Becky

Thanks for the reply. I had surgery 5 days ago. Did you also have a difficult time with breathing? Hurts a little to take a breath.

I sure did. I had that little machine that I was given after my surgery that I was supposed to breathe into. I used it for awhile and then I just made sure to take deep breaths every now and then. It was painful. That too will get better. I'm sorry you are going through all this pain right now. I also read your post about your tummy making gurgling sounds. Oh yes.... mine did that too. I wasn't sure if it was from the surgery, the gas, hunger, or what. I finally decided that it was my stomach saying thank you for the surgery. Now it just had to do a normal stomachs job. This too shall pass. Hang in there. Becky

I was just the same...

Pretty painful for 3 days, then not so painful for about 4 days, then moderately ok with just paracetamol til the end of week 2, then I was great...

In fact, I looked wonderful, cos I was taking my Vitamins, I was eating good fresh food, and few carbs and had lost a stone!!!

Breathing was painful for a good week, it helps to hold a pillow over your belly, especially when walking, coughing or hiccups!!!

You'll soon feel MUCH better!

Oh boy, I had those stomach pains & plenty of loud noises!! The pain lasted the first week. Most of it for me was hunger pains, but your body will adjust. The gurgling slowed down after the first week too, but every now & then it starts up again!! (only noise, not the pain) Hang in there, this too shall pass!! Congrats on becoming a "bandster" :(

I had my band 3 weeks ago and still have pain. It's different for everyone. My doctor told me my body is actually going through another 3 weeks of healing, so don't worry if it takes longer than 2 weeks.

your info really helped. Because it seemed like most people get through it by 2 weeks. I'm at 3 weeks and still having pain and gas. Not as bad. It is getting better. Thank you, pris.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
