Travel mushy food ideas needed!

Recommended Posts

Hi all - new to this forum and this is my first post ~ !

I am scheduled for the band surgery on 8/3 and I will be taking doing some car traveling about a week and a half later. My doc's office said that should be fine to do...but I'm wondering what I will be eating away from home. I will be eating out a lot and I feel I need to take charge and have lots of foods ready. I will be on liquids the first week and mushy foods by the time I'm on the road...

My husband keeps telling me to postpone the surgery until after the summer - but I just want to do this!

Any suggestions? Thanks everyone in advance.

Soup at hand is great. If you are in a motel, there is usually a microwave somewhere and if all else fails, you can take it in the store and use their microwave when filling up with gas. Just an idea.

Cream of wheat or oatmeal if you stop at a gas station and get hot Water, grocery stores should have hummus in the deli. applesauce, Jello, pudding, cottage cheese, yogurt, baby food if you can stand the taste of it, mashed potatoes if you go out to eat, I was able to eat scrambled eggs on my mushy phase and refried Beans.

Maybe this will help, I will try to think of more.

I just had my surgery on April 14th.. Get some Adtkins Protein Drinks and carry them in a cooler.. Little individual microwave mash potatoes, grits, oatmeal, sugar free pudding and Jello, sugar free popcicles.. You can try those Campbell Soups that you drink..

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
