Pre Op Protein Shakes..Heads up

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone

I wanted to let you all know that I have tried the 100% whey Protein Powder from GNC in the chocolate and banana Cream and they are totally tasty.. I used 8 oz of skim milk and just one scoop as it says to do and it was good. They say use Water but I did find it mixes best with the milk.

Anyway I wanted to let everyone know this is what works for me and I hope it helps you!

I do know that GNC right now is having a sale on the bags of this stuff for $10.99 a bag instead of like $16.00 so stock up..

Have and awesome day and I am still very excited surgery day is 9th July!

Michele

thanks to all of you for posting your advice :=) !!

I buy most of my protein/vitamin supplies at GNC & Trader Joe's. I also like GNC's Whey Protein. I have only tried Unjury's chicken broth protein, but their flavored Proteins seem to get very good reviews on this site.

If you are not aware, if you get GNC's Gold Card, you get 20% off your purchases during the first week of each month. The card costs $10, but I saved more than that on my first purchase.

Hello, I start my 2 week shake diet on Monday. I am scheduled for the 21st of July. The shakes they told me I have to buy @ the doctors office. Hmm is this the same thing? I wonder if i can save money if i just buy from GNC.

Thanks

Hi Felkatz,

I can't believe your DR told you that you had to buy them there. Must be some good kick-back for him. Buy them anywhere but just read the labels well. Make sure you are getting all the Protein you need in a day without the extra calories.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
