My surgery is July 20. I'm trying to get everything in line but I'm not sure what to bring with me. The normal essentials & pjs? Do you have to keep your gown on?

What should I bring to wear home? I'm so unsure of how my belly is going to feel...I don't want to be unrealistic of what I can comfortably wear.

Thanks everyone!!!

Definitely don't forget to bring lip balm! You are going to want it after surgery.

I brought a loose cotton dress to wear after surgery, and that worked out just fine. I also packed a tank top with a built-in bra, since I'd heard it might be hard to wear a bra depending on where the incisions are.

Whatever you decide to wear, just make sure it's really comfy and not tight or hard at the waist.

I took a bunch of stuff I didn't really need even thought I had to stay overnight. I agree, definitely something for your lips and I wore really loose joggers and a really loose button up shirt. I usually wear underwire bra but I bought a playtex without wires to wear for a couple of weeks. Catherine is right. The larger cut is just below that line. A brush for your hair. Mine was all matted. Don't forget a small pillow to use on the way home. My husband drove me about an hour drive home. The pillow helps with bumps in the road and if you have to sneeze or cough. Also take a little plastic bag in case you have to spit up a little.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
