After Surgery Food Suggestions?

Recommended Posts

I will be banded the 26th of this month and I am trying to stock up on things for after surgery. I have already gotten some chicken broth and boullion, sugar free Jello, and a good protien powder and pop-cycles.

I guess I just want to hear from a few of you what you did right after surgery. I know I will be okay once I get on mushies, it's just right after I'm wondering about. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!:)

Sounds like you got it covered! My Mom bought some Knorr boullion cubes (they're in a box) & I think they were far better than broth out of a can or regular boullion cubes! She also bought a ham Soup base (I think it was in a jar), it was ham broth with teeny tiny ham pieces in it, that I strained out, & it was delicious! Very filling! Good luck to you! Hope you have a speedy recovery!

Depends on what your doctor wants. fruit juices were a no for us as they have calories and can be pretty acidic. Only sugar free drinks were allowed, along with skim milk and Water.

For liquids (and I had to do 6 weeks of them!), I did this:

I had 3 CIB drinks a day. Each is 20 grams of Protein and 230 calories. What I did was:

1 packet of Carnation Instant Breakfast (get the blue box -- no-sugar added)

1 cup skim milk

1/3 cup powdered milk.

Mix it all up and drink! I would have 1/2 of one every 2-3 hours during the day, for a total of 60 grams of Protein, 690 calories. Since we can have more calories than that, I also had Soups, koolaid (sugar free), whatever.

I am starting to spound like a broken record, but I love Propel, it saved my butt during the liquid phase and it makes great icees. I make propel ice cubes and then add them to the blender with cold propel and blend. Thet taste good, are sugar free and have Vitamins. ~Mandy
