Okay, so today is day 5 of my ten day preop liquid diet. At first it was really hard. Now, it is getting easier...I think too much so.

I am supposed to keep it under 1000 calories. Each day, my intake gets less and less. Yesterday I only had 755 calories. Today, I'm only at 535, and it's close to bedtime.

I am getting in all my Protein, I'm just not looking for things to stuff myself with.

Also, I can't stomach broth! I have tried three different kinds, and it makes me nauseous. I used to really like it. Do you think it could be from the mix of that and all the milk-based things I've been drinking?

My husband and MIL are worried I'm not getting enough calories, and now they have me worrying a little too. Should I worry if I'm getting all my protein in?

Thanks in advance!

I am on day 3 of a 7 day CLEAR liquid diet. I get nothing but broth. I figure I am gertting about 300 calories max. I am allowed Campbells Soups strained in lieu of the broth stuff. That made me ill. I feel great today for some reason. Maybe tomorrow I will drop!

I think you are okay with the calorie intake. You have Protein supplements too right? Good luck!!

keep a record for a day and ask your surgeon or nutritionist to reveiw it to make sure it is what you should be doing. It sounds like you are doing great, but if you are concerned... i would follow the doc's direction.

you should be proud of yourself for sticking to it!! Way to go!!!

I start my 2 week CLEAR liquid diet next Friday. Found this recipe that sound pretty good and get some extra Vitamins in before surgery to help with healing.... Oh, and I already love miso Soup, so got plenty of that on hand...

Veggie broth: 1 tbsp. salt, 2 onions chunked, 3 carrot chunked, 3 turnips chunked, 2 parsnips chunked, 12 cloves garlic, 1 leek thinly cut, 3/4 tsp. tumeric, parsley and dill to taste. Put in large stock pot with 3-4 qts. Water. Boil, then drop to simmering for 2 hours.. Can be frozen...

During my pre-surgery liquid diet, I was supposed ot hit 1200 cals and rarely did. Only issue is you will send your body into starvation mode and you wont lose weight. My BF is a personal trainer and got really mad at me for not doing all my cals. I only lost 8 pounds during my 2 week liquid diet, should have been more. A good day to get more cals is juice. Many juices can have 200 cals for 8 oz. I would fill up on juice just to get my cals. Hang in there!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
