Exercise proud

Recommended Posts

Ok, so I haven't been banded yet and one of my biggest problems in the past has been stress eating. I talked with the Physc Dr when I had my eval and she told me I had to have a plan in place for how I was going to deal with stress post surgery, so I made a plan that if I was stressed out from work that I would go to the gym and work out until I felt the stress was gone.

I DID IT!...two hours later and a few muscles found I KNOW WERE NOT THERE, before I walked in the gym. But, I followed my plan and I am feeling pretty empowered at the moment.

I'd like to hear your stories of how you handle stress or a time when you excercised that you were really proud of.

I honestly dont know how people stay sane without exercise.

It certainly didnt come immediately but I really look forward to that time when I head out for my run every evening. I take my ipod and there's music on, but I'm conscious of it for only the first km or two, gradually I get in the zone, and once there, I download the stress of the day. I run through everything in my mind, I sort things out, I make plans and I've even written more than one or two brilliant essays for uni, lol. It really is a detox for the mind, and I dont like to have to function without it.

I'm always on at DH, he has such a stressful job and I tell him he just needs that personal space and quite time that running gives me to download his stuff, sort it through, rebalance his day. But he never listens. He watches TV and drinks beer instead - even though he has a lapband and has lost tons of weight.

keep it up - you SHOULD feel proud - and once it does become true habit, its just so rewarding.

Thanks! It did feel good. A year ago I was doing really pretty good at losing the weight and then I had to have a bone removed from my foot. Exercise became painful, so I stopped and the weight piled back on. Now, I'm pretty much healed and ready to go out and not only reach my goals but maintain them.

I hate going to the gym but love it when I'm there. I haven't tried running since my surgery and will probably wait until I have lost at least 20 to 30 pounds before I do try it. I really enjoy the elliptical cross glider, there is no impact and it doesn't hurt my foot or my knees.

Thanks for sharing your story.

As far as the 2nd half of that, I'm really proud of the 5k and 10ks I have run (another 7/4) As for the first half of that, I don't know, I was definitely a stress eater, not sure how I beat that with all the stress I have now. Just staying active in as many ways as possible I guess, I also tend to eat when I am bored.

Bill - I hear you on that! I tend to eat when I am bored, so I try to stay as busy as possible and running, cycling and swimming has done that for me. Summer is the worst, because I am off of school and home, too easy to open the cabinet/fridge and find something to stick in my mouth.

As far as stress eating, I definitely do that during the school year, I used to come home immediately and open the cabinets/fridge to find something to put in my mouth. Now I come right home and head to my room and change into my workout clothes and head out the door. I will also leave right from school and head to the pool - it is only 2 blocks away, and swim before I head home!

Exercise has been a huge plus for me this past year!:)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
