How far out from surgery could you still be having gas pains. I had surgery on 6/10/09 and for some reason today, I have had what I believe to be gas pains in my left shoulder blade and right at the incision where the port is. It is a dull, throbbing pain instead of a sharp pain. More annoying than anything else. I have emailed my surgeon the same question, but was curious as to what others thought. Night before last I had a little smushed refried, fat free Beans for dinner. I am at the mushy stage now.

Thoughts?

Have you tried gas x strips? They were my best friend. Also there are many of us bandsters who have gas pains months after surgery. Just remember keep walking, try the strips and if it continues see your surgeon. good luck to you

I had surgery on June 16th, close to your date. My gas pains have been the worst part of the surgery. The left shoulder pains started a week ago and have been consistant around bed time. They were soooooo bad!! My surgeon said its completely normal for gas to move into the left shoulder muscles. Weird I know. He did say if the pain gets really bad for too long then the tube attached to the band could be pushing on my diaphram and causing issues in the shoulder. Keep an eye on it. Mine have finally lessened and are rarely there.

Years ago I had several laproscopy surgeries and my Dr. recommended Phayzme 95, so after my LB this past Monday 29th, I had it here and waiting on me, but this time the surgeon recommended GasX strips that dissolve, so..... i tried them. YUCK! Didn't do much AND taste awful & leave a horrible taste in your mouth. Tuesday morning I got out the Phayzme95 pocked a whole in the geltab & swallowed it. Let me tell you, THAT WAS RELIEF!!!!! BIG difference! I totally recommend it over the 4 GasXstrips every so many hours as apposed to 1 Phayzyme 95 twice a day.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
