Anyone ever heard of a band "exploding"

Recommended Posts

My friend works at a medical office and was talking about the procedure to a nurse. The nurse said I should be careful because my band could explode if I ate too much. Is she nuts? I've never heard of this - it doesn't stretch that much. I can see the upper stomach stretching but the band exploding?

Yeah, that's what i love about the Medical biz....even people who work in the MEDICAL OFFICES don't always know what the hell they are talking about.

The band can do some ugly things. Exploding ain't one of them......

Oh for pete's sake... as if!

There has been an instance or two of the band becoming 'unbuckled' (not through overeating) but exploding?

Pardon me while I ROFLMAO.

Ok, no, she is nuts or at the least misinformed.

Exploding bands are not a concern.

Ok back to ROFLMAO.

I definitely think it might explode if you pump too much air into it from the bicycle pump. Always check the psi before you pump, then you are safe from exploding your band.

LMAO, I am not that informed yet and even I think that sounds farfetched... tell the "nurse" she has more chance of her having explosive diarhea, then Your lap band exploding.

OMG! Good advice for those who "self-fill"

I just wanted you to know (in case you didn't) that I am laughing myself to death at the fool who TOLD you such a silly thing, not at you. Especially when we're new, we don't KNOW!

I think you were smart to ask instead of just accept it at face value.

Just wanted to be clear!

Was it a Procologists office by any chance? as the nurse is clearly talking out her ass

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
