1hotchocolate 0 Posted July 1, 2009 Hello Guys...What will I need to have at home and take to the Hospital after surgery? Your advice is very needed and appreciated. Band day July 20th...Woohoo:thumbup:
AggiePaige 8 Posted July 2, 2009 I took a small, squishy pillow for the ride home, a book to calm myself, lip balm and sugar free candy. I didn't really use any of the stuff I brought. At home, dissolvable Gas-X helped a lot. So did a heating pain for the shoulder pains. My husband bought an array of creamy Soups and made sure I walked every hour. You'll need several ice packs, because I kept one constantly on my incisions. Also, lots of pillows to prop yourself up, some good movies to watch or books to read. Hope all goes well! greytz 4 Posted July 2, 2009 Ditto on the above. I had to stay overnight and I didn't need half the stuff I brought. I just wanted to add to wear something really loose fitting and comfortable. I wore really loose joggers and a loose button up blouse. Also, I usually wear underwire bras but I bought a playtex with no wires. There will be an incision just below the bra line that smarts if you don't have something comfortable. That worked for me. I wore it for about a week after surgery. One more thing I wanted to add about the heating pad. I definitely had shoulder pain and still do a little sometimes. My mother-in-law taught me something a long time ago and I still use it today. Take about a half bag of uncooked rice and sew an old pillowcase to the size you want and put the rice in it. I put it in the microwave on hi for about 2 minutes and it works great without having to use electricity. It last for about an hour depending on the size.:tongue2:
Grandma26 1 Posted July 2, 2009 The heating pad idea is great. Last Christmas my DH bought me these heat packs they sell in the mall on those kiosks, I used them the first few days because even though I felt great I think my body was over-reacting a little. I was cold and a little shakey. I micro waved the pack for about 1 min. and the heat felt very soothing on my shoulders and my chest. Plus the herbal smell had a very soothing effect. Good luck to you !!:tongue2:
