Yea you are still bloated from the gas. Give it a few more days it'll go away.

Your not on a liquid diet 3 days after surgery? You don't have a 2 week liquid, 2 week mushie, 2 week soft then regular food?

Anyway, a lot of times you gain to begin with. You have gas in your body and the surgery and all. Sometimes you don't lose until you have some kind of restriction. You are in what is called bandster hell. Don't expect to hit the sweet spot with the first fill. sometimes it will take 5 or more fills to hit the sweet spot. I have had 7. I am at my sweet spot now. That doesn't mean you won't lose but you will have to think about what you are doing more than when you hit the sweet spot. Good luck with your journey and keep posting and reading

You also may have some of the remaining fluids from your IV in your body. What I've learned is, the weight loss is not automatic with the band. You will see a drop in weight, but it will come over time. I was on liquids for 2 weeks after my surgery. It was only the third week after that I was able to eat pudding, pureed foods and such.

dont stress out. from what ive heard from dr's nurses and other people who've had it done this is completely normal. My post op was liquids for 10 days, mushy for 10 days then soft solids. I was banded may 21st....just got my first fill of 4cc's monday morning. When the nurse weighed me i was 4 lbs heavier. I was kind of relieved bc i was afraid i gained more. Until you have your first fill the band isnt really doing its job.....sometimes the first fill wont even do anything so just be patient......im being super strict with my diet since my fill....so just watch what you eat....and to be honest....i dk why youre not on thin liquids for the first 10 days post op....i would recommend switching over to that

Hi Vikki,

I wouldn't worry about the post op gain. I felt so bloated after surgery that I didn't get on the scale for a week. I lost 7 lbs, and the following week lost 4 more. Its leveled off now to about 2 lbs a week. Hang in there...

I was banded on 6/19 and lost 7 lbs in a week after surgery however I think I have gained 4 back since starting full liquids and now onton soft foods. As of day 14 I will have no food restrictions. I really think it depends on your surgery as to your post-op diet. Just try to watch your carb intake is all you can do at this point

when i weighed myself a couple days after surgery i had gained 8lbs. its just all the fluids and gas they pump into you, it goes away i promise. i had my surgery on 6/19 and im down almost 22 pounds. it will go away.

I never did liquids either...

straight onto purees morning after surgery for 2 weeks and then 1 week mashed food, then soft solids...

Every surgeon is different!

Oh - and I was told not to weigh myself until at least 1 week after surgery as I'd still be pumped full of IV fluids and gasses, so don't worry!

I was banded on 6/19 and the six days I went down 14 pounds. I then got to eat soft solids and promptly went up 4 pounds. This is week 2. I was initially a little disgusted that I didn't loose more but I went back down those 4 pounds. I am hoping that next week I can do 4-5 more. I think this must be very common due to the wild swing in your intake since surgery, along with IV fluids, anesthesia, and surgery in general.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
