Cake recipe? must be low in fat and sugar....

Recommended Posts

My sister in law's wedding shower is coming up and one of her favorite foods is CAKE! ahh...

I'm making her a regular cake out of the box, but I was wondering....

Anyone have a low fat/sugar FREE cake recipe?

Not sugar free, but an old WW trick is to take a box of cake mix and a diet soda and cook. not really a cake eater (I prefer icing) but I can see if I can find the particulars if you want. They do things like...spice cake and diet creme soda, or orange cake and diet sprite..

no oil no eggs. ?

Not sugar free though; I'm sure the mix has sugar in it.

Are you still on your post op diet? If not, just have a small piece of the cake you make her, and if you are, you may not be able to have any cake right now...?

I currently don't have any restrictions except the things I personally can't tolerate. I can eat a piece of a regular cake that I bake for her, but then its like... why did I get banded?

I've been looking for a recipe but there's either no or low sugar and a ton of fat or vice versa.

Even the flourless cakes require 8 eggs! Holy crap! I think I might just go with Sugar/Fat free chocolate pudding pie.

Ok it's totally a personal choice of course. We can all use the band as we see fit. I got it so I could be like everyone else...and skinny people eat a little cake every now and then! :P But we all have to do what is right for us.

LOL I'm sorry, did my reply come off as snooty? :P

Honestly, I also feel kinda weird eating "regular" food in front of people who know I had WLS. Like they must be thinking

"Oh she's going to gain all that weight back eating like this....." or "She shouldn't be eating that", etc.

LOL no and I nope I didn't sound prissy

I'm actually more likely to be snotty than prissy any day! :P

I understand, but the band is for life and you are very young and will have a long happy healthy one!

So a little cake now and then won't hurt you.

Note I said "A LITTLE!"

BUT I do mean it when I say you have to work it the way it works for you. So good luck and you have a lucky friend, whatever you decide! :)

Hope it's not too late. I made a delish cake a few weeks ago and it's low in sugar as well as low in fat. I bought a strawberry cake mix and used egg beaters in place of the eggs (1/4 C. egg beaters equals 1 egg) and then I replaced the oil with strawberry applesauce (I used two individual applesauces, or about 1/2 cup total). Bake the cake according to package instructions. Then I sliced strawberries and mixed in a small amount of splenda to sweeten then a bit and then poked some holes in the cake with a fork and threw the strawberries over it, juice and all. I mixed 1 sugar free pkg of pudding with 1 cup of skim milk and after it set up I mixed the pudding with a container of fat free cool whip and put that on top. I then grated some some semi sweet chocolate on top -- just a light dusting for looks (not taste). You could also use raspberries or black berries with yellow or white cake mix -- it's all delish. They even make low sugar cake mixes these days. Refrigerate the cake several hours before serving for best flavor. Hope you try it, it was a big hit at my office, even with the "regular" eaters, who didn't even realize it was low sugar and low fat. Linda

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
