Recommended Posts

Ok so I went to my PCP today to for an Anxiety attack I suffered on Sunday Morning.....

I told her I wanted to get the band, and she gave me the most "sweetest" smile and said "You dont need the band to loose weight you can do it on your own... just change your way of eating..." OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I wanted to strangle her!!!

She was like I do recomend the band to people but you are not that Big....

YEAH!!! RIGHT NOW!!

From April to now I gained 7 lbs!

So I was at 241 and now I am at 248!!!

AND TO TOP IT ALL OFF....

All my blood work came back GREAT!

No Cholestoral (which is good)

NO THINTHING! (good thing)

So the only thing I have right now is my Athsma and Knee joint pain (Cheerleading accident in highschool)

This is the way it has been for me for the past 5 yrs o so. I gain like 2-10 lbs a month!!!!!!!

I dont know what to do now...

I have my Appt with my LapBand Surgeon on

Thursday, hopefully he can help me out!

ANY SUGGESTIONS????

THIS JUST TOTALLY ADDED TO MY STRESS LEVEL! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really wanted to get the band and help myself out. I cant diet on my own like that!!

HUNGRY MONSTER ALWAYS WINS!!!!

Please help!:cursing:

Aww sorry to hear that! When I went to my PCM I said I just need you to send Tricare my authorization for lapband surgery ...really didnt ask :cursing: but maybe you wont need her permission...maybe if the surgeon deems it medically necessay that will be enough! :D But my PCM was supportive!

go to your insurance company and get the prerequisites in writing that qualify you for the surgery. then go to the surgeon and get the same information. bring both back to your primary and tell her:

"I qualify and meet the minimum requirements medicaly. Please give me the referral I need and qualify for. If you are someone that is against this for those who don't meet your own PERSONAL requirements, please refer me to a physician who will not put personal biases into it"

I am sure you can get a 2nd opinion. Don't take no for an answer!!! Good luck!!

Hope everything works out for you! It would drive me INSANE to hear a doctor say that to me. It's like, "Hello!? I'm pretty sure I've TRIED BEFORE." Idiot. I'm a letter person. The way I can fully express myself is through writing letters. That way I can get everything down. Were it me, I'd write a letter explaining why I think I need the lap band. I'm not suggesting that - I'm just saying it's something I'd probably do. I can be pretty damn convincing.

I saw my endocrinologist today because I don't have a PCP right now. I've been seeing him for 5 years and wanted to get a note from him. I've been waiting for the appointment for a MONTH now and I've been so worried that he wouldn't agree to it and would want me to try this-and-that instead. So I go in today and he's like, "I think it's a great idea." Wow.

My PCP didn't want me to get the band either. I think he didn't want to lose me as such a good patient. I have so many health problems that he has been treating for yrs. Ha. I know that was not the reason. I was gaining weigh every month also and needed something done. He finally agreed and helped me by sending my entire medical file to the insurance co. I am not sure that was a good ideal, but a few days later they agreed to pay for the surgery. WHatever it takes. Go for it.

Wow, what a strange doctor...Every doctor I have ever seen, military or civilian, the first words outta their mouths are "So, you know you are morbidly obese, right?":rolleyes2: Ya think?

The first time my pcm saw me here, the first words outta her mouth were "So, have you considered WLS?"

I agree with pp, get a second opinion, you dont need your pcp backing, you just need a referal...

You All are just AWSOME!!!!!!! THANKS!!:P

I dont know what her problem was...

I also told her that for the past 3-5 years Ive been suffering from Insomnia, and she told me to take VALERIAN ROOT, and Melatonin.....

Ive been there done that!!!!!!!

Also

if you have been seeing me for like the past 2 yearsas my pcp, and notice that my weight goes up 15 lbs then 2 months later goes down 10 then it goes up another 20......

Then HELLO What I am doing is not working for me!!

I just got sooooo mad today! I hope On thursday at my Surgeons visit I will get better news........

hi, i have surgery in 2 weeks. i changed my pcp to one that works with bariatric specialist. my bmi was high enough to qualify at 43 but insurance required that i visit dr each month and talk about weight and fill out form with doctor for 6 months min. our hospital has a class each month and then you find out who does the surgery and what insurance company needs or requirements are. it will be 11 months since i started process.

i explained to pcp doctor what i wanted to do and why. laying out a logical explanation to him. i think he understood my need and after visiting each month i felt very comfortable to ask for referral..i see him in morning for final visit before surgery with pcp. july 6 i see the surgeon for preop.

sell it! sell the idea that this is for you.

good luck.

i am not sure but they want you to make the big commitment for health.

My doctor didn't want me to get it either. She wanted to to go on weight lose medication. she was also right out of medical school and young........

I did the research go the criteria list and showed it to her and told hr I want the referral please.

After that she referred me no problems. Once that was over the rest was a breeze since my surgeon was fully supportive!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
