Hi, I'm new to this forum. I have 3 children and 3 grandchildren. I wish I had found you when I started my procedure. I had lap band surgery on January 21, 2009. I lost 44lbs., but I have gained 6lbs back this last month. I have only had 2 fills which consist of 2cc.

My doctor is Dr. Steven Clark at the St. Francis Weight Loss in Indianapolis, IN South Campus.

I don't work and I'm on disability. When I lost my job 2 years ago, I tried to get another job, but when you go to interviews with a cane nobody wants to hire you.

I really need someone to talk too. Like at first I lost 44 lbs. Than I got this sweet taste and all I wanted was something sweet, like pop tarts and chocolate candy. I need someone to talk too when I want food so I don't eat. It is mostly when I have nothing to do. If I can keep busy I'm fine. So if someone out there can help please do.

Thanks:blush: grandmawof3

Don't have them on hand. Seriously...no one NEEDS sweets (not even those grandkids. I bet they'd rather have a healthy grandmaw than candy). If you don't have them you don't eat them.

You probably need another fill, too. You might discuss this with your surgeon. 2 cc's doesn't mean good restriction for many people. Good luck!

I keep a large bag of Dove Dark chocolate around. If I really "need" a sugar fix, I grab one square and suck on it. Just one, though! If you can't trust yourself to only eat one occasionally, this isn't a good idea

Would sugar free candy, Crystal Light, or sugar free popsicles help? Again, you'd still need to keep the quantity down and reserve them for occasional treats, but they might help with "sweet hunger" without doing much damage caloricly.

Other than that, I'd say stay away. Go on a short walk. Make a post on here about how much you're craving sweets. Read a few pages in a book.

You can do it!!

Try brushing your teeth when you want something sweet. NOTHING tastes good right after you brush lol. Also consider a hobby that takes both hands to do [knitting, crocheting, x-stitch, beading, etc.] hard to eat if your hands are busy. Some exercise instead is a great idea, if walking is too difficult try some 'chair' exercises, such as stretching or Yoga. There are great tapes out there or programs on PBS that'll help you learn what to do. Also repeat this mantra :-) 'NOTHING tastes better than thin'! Good luck to you.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
