incision next to port site is sore

Recommended Posts

Hello Ya'll. I am 20 days post op and my incision next to my port site is sore. Also it feels like a wad of something is underneath the skin. Maybe the port cord? I have been working out so maybe its friction. I was wondering if this is just part of the healing process or if this is something I should call my doctor about. Your imput is appreciated.

I think the wad of something is actually the port - based on how mine feels. This started happening to me last week. My doctor recommended I take Tylenol and try using a heating pad on the spot. I would definitely call your Doctor on this though. My pain has lessened and I am only taking Tylenol as needed.

Hi Julie, I am 27 days post op and the incision by my port is still tender. I had a dress on Sunday and the seam of the dress kept touching it and was irritating the incision. Even as we speak, I can still feel the incision. The incision seems to be right in the middle of the extra roll of "me". It's off to the right side but my clothes touch it. Let me know how you make out if you call the doctor. I'm going for my first fill July 10th. Good luck

Well I actually thougth the outside incision was my port but when I went in to see my nutritionist she said it was the incision next to it. I felt silly since I had been telling everyone to "feel my port" and it wasn't even the right spot:blush:. So I know its not the port site. I did call the doctor to ask what I can take for occation pain and they said I could take tylenol or motrin. I took one today (cut it in half). So far so good. I just got back from the gym so in an hour or two might be a good judge of how sore its gonna be after a workout.

Hi, I am 4 months out and still occasionally have pain at my port site. There are many nerves that may become irritated and it may take some time for it to settle down. When I move a certain way, the port site really hurts...less and less though. There is definitely a healing process that occurs and just because your incision site looks fine, the inside heals at a slower pace. Good Luck on your journey to a new life:wink2:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
