I am on day 2 of my 7 day clear liquid diet. I cannot drink the broths or bouillons. They literally made me sick to my stomach. Can I make my own home made chicken Soup and drain it for the broth. I was so sick to my stomach by the end of the day yesterday. I am not fond of any "sugar free" products so my back up of popsicles and Jello was not a help. Today I am planning on just drinking tea and Water. Any suggestions?

God love you! I know every doc has their own instructions, so the best bet is to check with him/her. BUT, I was told that you can make your own chicken Soup and strain it to have the broth. I also picked up a hint from another poster here who said she used to buy the Mrs. Grass's chicken soup and only used the boiling Water and the broth packet, but didn't add the noodles or the "golden egg" (which is only oil anyway) and she really liked it. I haven't had my surgery yet, I leave for MX in 2 days and have surgery 7/3, but I've stocked my pantry with things like this. If you only drink tea and water you're going to get really weak. I hope you can find a good solution, best of luck!:tongue2:

CLEAR liquid DIETS SUCK :tongue2: OK i am done venting

I am currently on day 6 of a 14 day all clear liquid diet. no Protein no nothing. I am so sick of Jell-o at the moment it actually makes me sick when I try and eat it.

I have read a few posts on here where people have made their own chicken stock, and love it a lot better. Needless to say I really feel your hunger pains :cursing:

I'm guessing that this may not qualify as a "clear" liquid, but it made chicken broth tolerable for me. I made hot and sour Soup broth. 4c chicken broth, 1tbs chili garlic sauce (but paste is better due to the peper flakes and garlic floating around with the sauce and can be found usually in the international isle), 2 tbs rice vinegar or white vinegar, 1 tbs soy sauce and 1 tbs rice wine vinegar (optional). Let it boil and voila you actually want to drink it! LOL I strain it if I use chili garlic sauce, but the taste is all there, PLUS it has salt and a slight kick!

Thank God they told me I can get Campbell's chicken and noodle or any of them if I strain and or dilute. I dont like the creamier Soups anyway so I am gonna stick with the broth based ones. I am so excited. LOL I also bought some fruit bars (sugar free) but they may be the thick ones instead of the clear type so I may have to give those up to the kiddies. I can not wait until full liquids. This part SUCKS!!!!

An Italian tip...I bought chicken stock (low sodium) i get 4oz. put a pinch of fine grated Romano cheese (it melts when you heat up the broth) and dash of black pepper and its pretty good..

I know EXACTLY what you mean. You've officially entered what I would describe as "the crazy woman stage". Check out the boards, you'll see we all hit it around 3-5 days into liquids! I wanted to eat, couldn't and then would cry. :tongue_smilie: I described it as PMS on steriods! It has gotten better, but I cheated slightly during my first episode.

My DH has been so supportive, but is starving! LOL I haven't cooked anything that I myself cannot have, but he has cooked things that I wouldn't want. It's the smell of the stuff cooking that kills me! It smells sooooo good. That's when I get depressed about liquids.

I chug my protien shakes in hopes of feeling somewhat full for a minute. LOL Sometime it works, but it also seems to make for quicker trips to the bathroom. I found the Swiss Miss diet hot chocolate helps me in the evening with being hungry. It's 25 cal and I think 2 carbs and even 1 protien. I put some extra splenda in it too.

Today is hopefully my last day of being hungry on liquids. By this time tomorrow I hope to be on my way to the surgical center.

Isopure is what got me thru the liquid stages, when I couldn't bear the thought of another shake. It comes in a bottle in quite a few flavors including ice tea, apple/melon, blue raspberry. I buy it at GNC. I'm on solids now, but I still drink at least 1/2 a bottle a day to get in extra Protein. It has 40g protein in 20oz bottle.

I'm feelin a little better today. when i went to bed last night i think i was about to kill hubby for having me cook a dinner that i could not eat. I think i will have to do like some of you all and tell the family that their on their own, at least untill i can get throught this part.

I'll also be going out to GNC today because a lot of people love the Isopure.< /p>

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
