PSYCH EVALUATION??? I booked it today and it is 3 hours...are you serious...then you have to go back the same day for a follow up...What are we possibly going to do in that amount of time??? And what if I fail???

I thought that I saw some people have the psych evaluation and they said it was no big deal they just prepare you emotionally for the surgery. I am also nervous because I am on anti anxiety medication , I was put on it after I had my daughter ..so what if they think I am crazy !!!!

Can anyone make me feel better???

Thanks,

There are many people on meds for anxiety. I don't think it will effect anything with the psych eval. I think they want to make sure that you are emotionally ready/mature enough to deal with the huge committment and resposibility of having the lapband and that you are ready/willing to follow the program

good luck :tongue2:

Relax... you will be fine. Chances are since your appt is so long, you will be taking a 300 question personality test and will meet with the shrink afterwards. the test is a cake walk...just time consuming. questions like: did you like your parents?; Did you ever want to hurt animals? common sense answers and you will be fine.

good luck and try not to worry too much. anti anxiety meds will not make you eneligible.

I had my eval on 6/2/09, I was worried they were going to call me crazy and lock me up.

She did quite the opposite. We talked in great length about why I felt this was the best option and what I had tried prior to this and of course I did get to take the lovely 300 question test.

Overall, I really enjoyed my eval, the Dr. was really nice.

No psychologist worth his salt will think you are "crazy" because you are on anti-anxiety medicine. You need to calm down! :tongue2:

The three hours probably means you'll have to take some type of standardized test like the MMPI. Answer HONESTLY. (it will trip you up if you don't). Then you'll probably meet with the psychologist to go over it and s/he will try to assess your readiness/preparedness/success with the band. Frankly some people are NOT suited for it, most are. So just take a deep breath (or two) and go be yourself.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
