NYC_gal 0 Posted June 29, 2009 Ok, can we eat salad? Ha ha. I LOVE salad but I've been avoiding it because I remember seeing it on a list of foods to stay away from. I'm like 5 weeks out now. I never knew if that was just because my stomach was healing or if its just something that doesn't go down easily or is hard to digest. If anyone has an answer please let me know. I've had chopped celery before and I had no problem with that. So hm.....

MADE IT 2 MY GOAL..OH YEAH 0 Posted June 30, 2009 Ok, can we eat salad? Ha ha. I LOVE salad but I've been avoiding it because I remember seeing it on a list of foods to stay away from. If anyone has an answer please let me know. I've had chopped celery before and I had no problem with that. So hm..... I'm almost a year out and I still eat salads. I just eat a little bit with fat free dressing. I have had no problems with it.
CarmenPonce 0 Posted June 30, 2009 Salads are ok if you can tolerate them, but they do go against band rules which say you should have Protein first. A salad will digest faster than dense protein, so you will get hungry faster.
AngelWhisper 0 Posted June 30, 2009 I eat salads all the time. I generally add some grilled chicken, hardboiled eggs, or both for the Protein. Sometimes I add some grated cheese too. Yummy.
itschoice 0 Posted June 30, 2009 I eat salad. I guess you wont know until you try. I would say just wait until you are cleared to eat solids and CHEW.
maestrita 43 Posted June 30, 2009 Oh, I love salads. I eat them almost every day. I eat bib lettuce, romaine, spinach, kale.... I saw that thread, too, and I really don't know what could be bad about salads unless, like with everything else, a person didn't chew-chew. It is also probably, just like everything else, different for each person. I say give it a try! :tongue2:
bmooney364 30 Posted June 30, 2009 I am glad to see this post. I am hungry for salad and now I guess I will try one for the first time since banding. I think I will put grilled chicken and a boiled egg in and eat that first then the lettuce. Make sure I get all the Protein first. Thanks guys.
thin2win 0 Posted June 30, 2009 Just a quick Hello!!! My name is COLEEN as well. You don't see this spelling very often,so when I do I always feel a "connection" Good luck on your journey,I was banded Feb 5th!
MissChristina 0 Posted June 30, 2009 I was scared to eat salads, but had my first one yesterday and it was just fine and SUPER delish- I missed it! Like everyone else says- just be sure to chew- small bites and CHEW! It's all trial and error, everyone's body reacts differently to different foods. I hope it goes well for you. Libbyjane1976 1 Posted June 30, 2009 Don't have any problems whatsoever with salad. Goes in and down just fine.
crystal525 26 Posted June 30, 2009 I love it and I can eat it. I chop it all up completely before eating. It's actually an easy way for me to get my Protein with the cheese, egg, and I use FF lunchmeat (which goes down easier than chicken) and veggies. The dressing lubes everything up real good too! Low fat when using fat free dressing. I personally think this is a great choice.
maestrita 43 Posted June 30, 2009 BMooney, I would actually have far more trouble with the grilled chicken than I would the salad. Chicken can be dry, and I can't take more than a bite or two without eating much of anything else. Just a thought...
BillOh 13 Posted June 30, 2009 I haven't had any problems with salad as of yet. As always, chew, chew, chew. Initally they don't want you to eat uncooked vegtables or fruit because of risk of bacterial infection. Banannas are an exception since they are sealed in their skin and that can be peeled away.
